O Kadhal Kanmani (2015)
Also known as OK Kanmani, this film eventually inspired the Bollywood remake OK Jaanu starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. The original Tamil movie directed and produced by Mani Ratnam went on to gain both critical as well as commercial success as a romance release. In an unconventional feat at the time, the movie went on to portray a Mumbai couple in a live-in relationship and questioned the pre-existing rigid ideals surrounding marriage. Both Salmaan and Nithya Menen were praised for their work and received several nominations for the same.
O Kadhal Kanmani is available on Disney+Hotstar, Netflix, ZEE5, and Prime Video.
Charlie (2015)
Available on JioCinema, the movie revolves around the titular character played by Salmaan. Parvathy Thiruvothu’s Tessa escapes her familial home after being compelled to get married. After renting a room on the run, she finds a sketchbook left behind by the previous resident, Charlie. The rest of the story is all about how she gets tangled up with Charlie’s existence as she sets out to find him who declares himself to be “a poor genie who used to stay in (her) room”. Dulquer Salmaan even won the Best Actor Kerala State Film Award for his role in the film.
Karwaan (2018)
While some viewers may have a different opinion of this movie, one can’t deny that it marked Salmaan’s starry entry into Bollywood. Co-starring alongside Bollywood legend Irrfan Khan, Salmaan’s Hindi debut was a heartwarming, feel-good road comedy. He plays the role of Avinash, who was bullied into working at an IT company and letting go of his passion for photography. The premise of the movie has him embark on a comically riddled journey with Khan’s Shaukat wherein his father’s corpse is switched with that of Tanya’s (Mithila Palkar) grandmother. With his latest Hindi release Chup right around the corner, we’re urging you to check out his first Hindi movie Karwaan before anything else.
You can watch Karwaan on Prime Video.
Dulquer Salmaan is yet again starring in a Hindi film, Chup: Revenge of the Artist, releasing on September 23, 2022. All special shows of the movie have been sold out across India within minutes, establishing Salmaan’s reigning supremacy in showbiz. The psychological thriller was directed by R. Balki and has Sunny Deol, Shreya Dhanwanthar, Pooja Bhatt, and more joining the heartthrob of the hour.
