Hotstar Specials’ Ghar Waapsi Review Contains No Spoilers
In the Hotstar show Ghar Waapsi, Shekhar Dwivedi (Vishal Vashishtha), a product manager at a multi-national company, gets laid off from his job. Shekhar returns to his hometown Indore until he finds a new job. He doesn’t tell his family about being jobless. After returning home, Shekhar connects deeply with his family, his past lover, and himself.
Hotstar Specials’ Ghar Waapsi is a relatable subject to many people, especially if you have lost your job. The last two years of lockdown have been the worst for many Indians. Many got laid off from their job. In many families, the sole bread-earner was unemployed for months. The subject taken by the makers will connect with a lot of people who’ve been in this situation.
The web series covers how one feels when they get laid off from their job, and the self-doubt that kicks in. One of the hardest things is not knowing how to tell your family members that you don’t have a job anymore. If that wasn’t enough, Shekhar learns that his father’s travel agency business has also taken a hit.

Along with showing us the plight of an unemployed millennial boy, Ghar Waapsi highlights how technology has affected the traditional ways of doing business. The show also focuses on Shekhar and his family’s equations. A person’s hectic work life can take away a lot from their life, including the beautiful bonds they share with their family. We also see that happening with our characters.
The series wonderfully captures the struggles of finding a new job, finding ways to keep yourself motivated, putting up a brave face, rebuilding the lost equations, rekindling an old flame, friendships and much more. Every episode has several meaningful conversations and scenes that resonate with many people.
Actor Vishal Vashishtha has the most screentime in Ghar Waapsi and has brilliantly portrayed every millennial’s struggle, dilemma, frustration, happiness and ambitions. Actors Akanksha Thakur, Atul Srivastava, Vibha Chibber, Saad Bilgrami, and Anushka Kaushik have done a wonderful job throughout.

Ghar Waapsi Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, the Hotstar series shows the struggle many young people face in today’s time of uncertainty. It also has some touching and heartwarming moments. Along with the affection family members have for each other, the makers also showed their differences. One particular scene where Shekhar loses his cool on his parents for their conservative thinking is a fight I am sure many young boys and girls have had with their parents.
Ghar Waapsi is a sweet, emotional and relatable show that you should definitely watch.
The show is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
