Death of a Young Girl in a Small Village
The series off with the death of a young girl whose body is found in the forest near the rural village of Manscheid, deep in the North of Luxembourg. Luc Capitani, a gruff detective from the South of the country, who happens to be there due to some personal work, is put in charge of the case.

The girl is identified as Jenny Engel, twin sister of Tanja Engel, who is also missing. However, Jenny was found lying dead near a high cliff and had drugs on her, thus the simplest reasoning of suicide or accidental death is concluded. But before the case could be investigated further, Jenny’s stepdad Rob hangs himself.
His suicide adds up to the case and rumours of Rob killing Jenny start surfacing in the community. However, Luc Capitani isn’t having an easy time with the investigation as well. Having trouble navigating the closed, communal and protective mentality of the northerners community, Capitani finds himself unwillingly dependent on the help of Elsa Ley, a young and intrepid local policewoman.
But as they try to find more clues about the drug dealers and the mystery behind Jenny’s death, the officers quickly find themselves entangled in a web of secrets and lies. In hunting a murderer, Capitani is forced to confront his own demons of the past as he discovers the shocking truth, that is hidden behind everyone’s pretentious smiles.

Thoughts: An Angry Cop With Lacking Social Skills
Capitani on Netflix is an interesting crime thriller series with complex storylines. Each character has something going on in their life which adds up to the central plot. It is a well-paced series as the information or secrets are revealed step by step, keeping the audience engaged till the end. However, the main lead, Luc Capitani looks like a hot-headed cop who just wants to get the work done asap.
He does have a dark past which still lingers in his present but it doesn’t make him likeable in any way. He is described as a gruff policeman but his character development remains constant or becomes rather annoying at times. The show had been signed for another season and is releasing in July only.
A second season was also necessary since the story was not complete in the first season. In the end, Luc Capitani was arrested and was on his way to court while we finally learnt what really happened on the night of Jenny’s or technically Tanja’s death (in brief, the dead girl is actually Tanja and the one who came back home is Jenny). I believe another season might give us many answers that were not explored in this season.
Capitani is streaming on Netflix.
