Plot: A Doting Dad With Bad Work Ethic

Trevor Bingley (played by Rowan Atkinson) is a new house sitter at the company House sitter deluxe and his first job is a high-profile one. He is tasked to take care of a posh mansion which is equipped with high-tech functions and valuable artworks. But there’s a problem, a bee has entered the house and is pestering Trevor from having a peaceful time at his job.

He tries to capture the bee by trapping it under a glass, trying to shoo it outside and numerous other ways that only lead to the destruction of property, pets and everything that shouldn’t be played around with. Meanwhile, this job is the only way for him to take his daughter out for a holiday next week. Will he be able to get rid of the bee or end up in a situation of total chaos and lose his only job as well?

Man With All the Odds Against Him or Maybe Just a Bee

The series starts off with Trevor Bingley standing in court while the judge tells him all the charges that are put against him, including willful neglect, dangerous driving, destruction of priceless artwork, criminal damage and arson. The judge asks him if he has anything to say before the verdict and he apologetically says, ‘you see there was a bee’.

Still from Man Vs Bee

That’s the premise of the show, how a harmless man in a mansion along with a bee, reached the point where he stands on trial in a court. We go back to the day when Trevor rings the bell of the mansion that houses the Bergenbatten couple and their dog cupcake. They are in a hurry as their car is waiting and thus fail to tell him everything about the house properly. But, need not worry because there’s a manual that has everything from various lock passwords to cupcakes’ dietary plan.

But he isn’t alone in the house. There is an unexpected guest flying around, sitting on the walls, exploring cabinets and what not. While Trevor was going around the house, making food for himself but he accidentally sets the manual on fire and thus loses the only key to every information about the house.

Adding up the constant buzzing by the bee, he just loses his mind and is just focused on getting the bee, no matter how. In the process, he breaks some art pieces, rips apart a painting with a hammer, the library with antique books and everything disastrous you can think of. Oh! and also, there’s a threat of burglars that have been eyeing the mansion to rob, but I guess they are better off robbing another house.

Final Thoughts: Stream It or Skip It?

Man Vs Bee on Netflix is a fun casual watch that you can enjoy with your whole family. Rowan Atkinson is an established personality in the world of comedy and has made a specific place for his antics. The series is a collection of small episodes that have a chaotic start but the ending will surprise you in a good way.

The series is goofy and childish at times but I guess that’s the point of it. We don’t need to objectively analyse everything about the series, it’s just some slapstick comedy that may or may not make sense most of the time but it’s harmless fun (at least for the audience) and entertaining nevertheless.
