Maldivas: Everything to Know About Netflix’s Brazilian Dramedy

Netflix is bringing to its audience an original comedy-drama series straight from Brazil called Maldivas. The series is created by Natalia Klein and directed by José Alvarenga Jr. It follows the story of a woman who wants to reconnect with her mother but soon realises that meeting her might be next to impossible. The trailer of the film sets a very vibrant and chill tone to the series, although it deals with the topics of death and mystery.

Recently, there have been many series being released on Netflix that delve into investigative crime thrillers. Although the storyline of this series somewhat falls in similar sub-genres of mystery investigation, the style of visual storytelling is much more upbeat and quirky, to say the least.

Maldivas Cast

The cast includes Bruna Marquezine as Liz, Enzo Romani as Denilson, Manu Gavassi as Milene, Klebber Toledo as Victor Hugo, Sheron Menezzes as Rayssa, Samuel Melo as Cauã, Carol Castro as Kat, Guilherme Winter as Gustavo, Natalia Klein as Verônica, Danilo Mesquita as Miguel and Vanessa Gerbelli as Estela.

Maldivas Plot/Synopsis

Netflix’s synopsis of the series read – To investigate a mystery, a young woman moves into a posh condo community, where she comes into contact with its quirky and suspicious residents. The series follows the story of Liz (Bruna Marquezine) who moves from Goiânia to Rio de Janeiro in order to reconnect with her mother who might have left her in childhood, as seen in the trailer. But before she could have a chance to meet with her estranged mother she dies in a mysterious fire in her apartment.

Liz then decides to figure out the mystery behind her mother’s sudden death. To be able to do that she moves into the Maldivas, which is a posh community and where she meets up with various unique characters. Liz soon realises that she shouldn’t be fooled by their appearances as there are many secrets behind the Maldivas’ vibrant condo.
