Candy Episode 4 is out now. Created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith, the miniseries features Jessica Biel in the titular role along with Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore, Pablo Schreiber as Allan Gore and Timothy Simons as Pat Montgomery. The series recounts the murder of Betty Gore and, the subsequent trial where the titular character was seen as the killer.
The series consists of 5 episodes which will make up for a 5-night event on Hulu, with one episode released every day. The runtime for the fourth episode is 54 minutes.

Candy Episode 4: Cover Girl
The fourth episode of Candy opens with Allan supporting his wife at the trial. Soon enough, we are taken back to the fateful night wrapped in a police investigation and, everyone soon finds out about Betty Gore’s killing. The first guess is a drifter, a psychopathic man. But, as the episode progresses the truth seems to be catching up with Candy, the more she tries to push it away. The episode name is right in sync with the kind of performance Jessical Biel’s Candy puts up by being the perfect cover girl in front of everyone’s eyes. In fact, it is hard for anyone to even suspect her.
But, from footprint to fingerprints, shreds of evidence seem to find a way to reach the case file keeping Candy anxious and at bay. We finally do get to know from Candy’s lawyer that the case is going to be about self-defence and, not direct manslaughter. Betty’s death soon leaves everyone shocked and shattered in the episode and, it will be a big jump to the next episode, where we might to get to hear the full recounting of the incident from the only known survivor of the event.
Candy Episode 4 is an acting masterclass as everyone tries to put their best foot forward. With much focus on Melanie Lynskey’s character in the previous episode, this episode is more grounded to the husband Allan Gore, played by Pablo Schreiber. We see Schreiber go from being unreactive to a complete mental breakdown and it somehow holds close to the psychology of men belonging to that era of how they cannot process feelings initially until it all breaks out in one go. Timothy Simons, who has been more of a supporting character throughout the last few episodes gives us a segment that is intense.

As for Jessica Biel, the woman just gets better. We see so many hues in Candy’s character through Biel’s performance that we are often left in doubt if Mrs. Montgomery is a clean soul or a devil in disguise. We see Candy being a helping hand and perfect wife and, mother, even after everything that has happened. But there are pauses to reveal a killer underneath be it trying to get rid of evidence or cherishing in fear the scene of the crime. Yes, very characteristics of psychopaths.
Candy Episode 4: Final Thoughts
Well, in Candy Episode 4 decides to take a step to show us the blood, gore and massacre. For true crime fans, it is a pure delight going through the crime scene but, it isn’t as thorough as one would like to be. The investigation team seems to be really zooming into a prime suspect and, although that is how things are usually done in cinema there is a lack of enthusiasm to look for more pieces of evidence and connection to find out more about Betty Gore. This could even be due to the lack of screen time the police get.
Overall, it was a good episode with all the tension, pressure, sorrow and gloom. But it is still unclear how everything will be wrapped up in one single finale which will be the fifth episode. Guess, we will just have to tune in to find out.
