Ozark Season 4 Part 1: No One Gets Out Clean

Every season of Ozark has always been a wild ride with unreliable characters getting killed left, right and centre and never knowing to trust except your family, maybe. Well, in season 3 things got quite bloody at the end with Helen Pierce’s death and, one can assume that it would come biting the Byrdes back in their ass. Also, after Wendy’s death sentence to Ben, the Byrdes have lost their most precious asset- Ruth Langmore. With Snells, Langmores and the cartel breathing down their back, the start of Ozark Season 4 pretty much seems inevitable.

The first episode starts with the Byrde family on the road, presumably returning from a vacation (or, could be a deal). We can see the air between Jonah and Wendy is tense whereas Charlotte and Wendy seem to be on the same page. As Marty drives the car, it is in a moment of distraction that he takes a hasty turn that lands their car upside down. The next scene cuts to conjunction where season three and season four can be linked- Mexico.

We see Marty and Wendy cleaning blood off themselves and, we can assume that the story is going to be old in reverse from where we left off last season to the newest development this season: Do the Byrdes die?

Omar Navarro, the head of the Mexican drug cartel who put the Byrde family in the money laundering phase in the first place, seems to want out. Knowing that he might be targetted by members of his own family (like, his nephew Javi) or, other powerful people, Navarro wants the Byrdes to launder him clean and, cut a deal with the FBI- a cooperating witness, maybe. As impossible as it sounds, Marty and Wendy take on the challenge as this would mean they get to be out of this dangerous business by the end and hold no obligation to the cartel.

As Marty and Wendy, jump on to new endeavours starting from getting political support in their charity board to buying a pharma company, Javi tags along their tail and, keeps them close. As for Ruth, she is not with the killing machine, Darlene Snell. The heroin trade is to come back in action as Darlene continues to farm and, Ruth plans to launder for her. The new addition to this team is Jonah Byrde, who like father like son, has built his own software to get money to the offshore accounts and help Ruth, as they are both grieving Ben’s death.

However, as brilliantly as the plan is laid out in Marty and Wendy’s minds, it does exactly go as planned. Omar Navarro screws up his initial pitch with FBI Agent Miller, Javi just gets slightly more dangerous than expected with every passing minute, Ruth cannot seem to have it all with Darlene as a business partner and, a new head in town- Mel Sattem, rustles everything up investigating Helen Pierce’s death.

Ozark Season 4 Part 1: Final Verdict

Every actor in this particular season is a powerhouse with the storyline being as engaging as ever. Laura Linney is cold, emotional and, everything needed to make or break the deal. Julia Garner is truly phenomenal and, just keeps getting better. Jason Bateman is the Walter White of this story and, the only handle to balance it all out.

New additions to the cast such as Alfonso Herrera is terrifying in his boss shoes. Meanwhile, Lisa Emery continues to terrify the Ozarks and, the audience in her psychotic way. Sofia Hublitz is a pleasant surprise this season as she seems more grounded and less annoying giving her character a good arc to move forward with. However, it is the youngest Byrde played by Skylar Gaertner who seize our attention and, keep us on our toes.

Ozark Season 4 starts off with a ride that is truly unforgettable and, if you are a fan, this is your cue to go and stream the latest season now. It is now streaming on Netflix.
