The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 Overview
The Aquatope on White Sand is the latest anime by the Anime Studio P.A. Works, previously known for producing critically and commercially acclaimed anime like Angel Beats and Another. Toshiya Shinohara directs the series, a director whose career so far has been intrinsically linked with P.A. works, having previously directed Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara and Nagi no Asu kara for the studio before. It is an original series by P.A. works, which means it is not based on a previously existing property, such as a Manga or a Light Novel.

The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 Review: Plot and Characters
If you have followed my review of this series up until this point, you must be surprised to see me talk about the plot and characters before the art and music. There’s a reason for that, and it isn’t because the animation is bad. It is because the characters and plot were just that good.

We are in the regular slice-of-life pattern with The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8, as the show focuses on a tangential issue while slowly inching towards the true storyline inside the story. That usually means that some episodes are better than the others when the show is biding time until the next major arc. Taking all of this into consideration, The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 was fantastic.
Aquatope is in its “Give all side characters one major episode” stage of being, and we have already had episodes centred around Udon-Chan and Kuuya. Episode 8 was all about Karin and her personality, and I have to say that she is written very well. She plays the role of an elder sister to Kukuru to perfection, despite not even being her sister. She is a dedicated career woman who wants to see Kukuru succeed where she couldn’t.

The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 Also featured a B story about Umi-yan and a girl who stopped visiting Gama-Gama. That B story is a great way to put some weight into what generally was a pretty light and humorous episode. It feels painful to see all these people lose the aquarium that meant this much to them. That is a major theme of this show, and most storylines are based around this. I’m sure we will learn more about it as the show goes on.
Speaking of humour, The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 was probably the funniest episode of the show so far. The lady with the C-word phobia (it’s not what you think it is) made the entire runtime of the show worth checking out and had a great conclusion to boot. It also blended in nicely with the B plot of the show to form a perfectly cohesive narrative. You don’t see that much!
The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 Review: Art and Music
I don’t know how much there is to say other than what I’ve already said. The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 was lighter in animation when compared to the rest of the series due to it being set inside a single building for almost its entire runtime. The show still had absolutely bonkers animation that we just didn’t get to see much. Fair enough, I guess.
The music was breathtaking, but I don’t think I heard any new tracks. Everything that played, we had already heard once or more. All of it was still mind-blowing, and the show boasts one of the best OSTs this season. Depending upon how the show goes, the soundtrack might just be vinyl worthy.
Verdict
The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 8 was just as great as the rest of the season, and you probably have an opinion about it one way or another. I love it, and I will keep watching the rest of the series just as I have so far.
