I’m going to be honest with all of you. I do not expect anything from How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6, and neither should you. This series is peculiar because it doesn’t seem to care about the plot that it set up itself. Anyhow, let’s see how this particular episode did in this review.

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom is being adapted to anime by the studio J.C.Staff, also known for bringing popular anime like Food Wars and One Punch Man Season 2 to our screens. The anime is being directed by Takashi Watanabe, who has previously been involved with the productions of Death Note and Slayers. The series is adapted from a famous light novel written by Dozuemaru.

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6- The Review
Identity crisis is a term that we have heard from time to time across our lives. It is generally used to allude to things that don’t really know what they want to be or how they want to act. It is truly a sad sight to witness, especially if something like that happens to a thing you really took a liking to.
That’s what we have here, with How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6. There are two apparent parts to the show, and the show sees-saws between the two parts with a frightening pace. The two parts, or the show’s identity crisis, can be distinguished into two categories- Medieval Fantasy and Harem.
Technically, Harem is also a fantasy, in the most literal kind of way, but hear me out. On the one hand, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6 begins with a 2-minute long exposure dump at the show’s start. Then, the opening themes and visuals start, and you see at least four female characters that the protagonist, Kazuya, will tease a relationship with.
Then you start with the first scene inside the establishment. Two characters talk about the kingdom and the strife that has developed within it since Kazuya took charge of it, all while Kazuya is sitting with two potential suitors. Mind you, creators can do this sort of thing really well. Just look at Re: Zero, or Steins; Gate. There are always hints and opportunities for romance in those shows, but they are mixed well with the show’s story.
Meanwhile, in How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6, it feels like we are watching two separate shows altogether. One is an exciting story of how a divided kingdom is united and brought to prosperity by a man who just has a common sense for his superpower. The other is just another harem show that doesn’t quite work because it doesn’t commit enough to make it work. In a harem anime, you really have to make the characters every bit of each other’s equal so that the audience can pick their favourites and root for them.
Thus, the quality of an episode of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom relies on one thing and one thing only. Which side of it have the creators chosen to display in a particular episode. In How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6, it was the Fantasy side. While in the previous two episodes, the harem sides took the lead. As my scores indicated, those weren’t good episodes.
So, was How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6 a good episode? Yes, I would say so. It was definitely better than the previous two episodes, which can only be a good thing. It had tons of worldbuilding, the show introduced three new characters, and Kazuya actually got to flex his wits for once. The info-dumping is getting ridiculous at this point, though. There are many ways of giving context to viewers, which is not just 3 minutes of dialogue.

Also, stop with the Indian Soap-like last-minute “mystery” angles. They don’t work, especially when they feel artificial, like How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom usually does them. Pick an angle, Realist Hero. Go to a therapist, and work your issues out. This is a safe space, and we are all here to support you.
Verdict
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Episode 6 wasn’t bad, although I’m a lot more apprehensive in calling the show “good” ever since I realised just how bad it could really be. I’m going to give this episode a tentative thumbs-up because it was a competent 30 minutes of television, and there wasn’t much wrong with it. I was entertained while watching it, and that is where I’m going to leave it.
