This season’s One-Fanged Waifu is back with The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2! After a relatively basic first episode, it is time to see if this anime is worth giving a try this season. Let’s get on with my review of Jahy-Sama Wa Kujikenai Episode 2.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2- Overview

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is a comedy, supernatural, and slice-of-life anime developed by Silver Link Studios, previously known for anime such as Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World and Kokoro Connect. Mirai Minato is directing it, who has previously directed various other anime for Silver Link Studios, including the aforementioned Our Last Crusade and Masamune-Kun’s Revenge.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2- The Characters

The episode is titled after Druj, Jahy-Sama’s admirer and servant from the Dark Realm, who has also been dispatched to earth after the Realm’s fall. Druj is voiced by the indomitable Kana Hanazawa and has tons of personality. She and Jahy are polar opposites, and she is head over heels for Jahy and her antics. Druj and Jahy share a delightful relationship that is sure to be a part of many more storylines in the future.
Jahy-Sama as a character shone as bright as her mana crystals this episode. She was adorable, dumb, well-meaning, and proud in the same episode, and I think that her staying in her kid form for the majority of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2 was a great decision by the writer. It allowed her good nature and caring demeanour to shine in front of her brash personality,

The landlord also played a small yet prominent part in this episode, in a moment that almost brought me to tears. It is rapidly becoming clear to me that the best part of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is the strength of its characters, and I hope it continues to be that way.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2 – The Plot
The plot of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2 was interesting, although I’m not quite sure it achieved the reactions it was going for. To explain that deeply would involve me going into spoiler territory, but I’ll try to talk about some of it anyways.

The theme of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2 was Karma, to the extent that I think it should have been the episode’s name. Various of Jahy-Sama’s transgressions in her previous life came to bite her in the ass, quite brutally in fact. If the show weren’t trying to be funny or ironic, this episode would have for right into something like Kaiji or Clannad, where such sadness of a brutal nature is to be expected.
It got to the point that I got to thinking that if Jahy-Sama didn’t get a break soon, we might have another Madoka Magika in our hands. But that wasn’t the case. All is well that ends well, and this episode certainly does end very well, including a tinge of beautiful irony. It wasn’t anything you wouldn’t expect, but it will touch you nonetheless. The comedy was quite diminished from the first episode, but I think that was on purpose. Overall, another fantastic outing by The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2- The Art and Music
The voice acting was the star of the show again, as expected. I’m telling you, once you start recognising a particular Seiyuu’s voice in an anime, the feeling is fantastic. My ears perked up when I heard Kana Hanazawa’s voice coming out of Druj’s mouth, and that is a huge positive. Naomi Oozura is also knocking out of the park as Jahy-Sama, and she is also responsible for half of the comic moments in the show.
I am really digging the opening theme to The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated. I feel like this could be among this season’s top opening themes, although the competition isn’t that ferocious, admittedly. Great stuff, overall.

Verdict
I am getting a feeling that Jahy-Sama is closer to Nagatoro-Chan than Usagi-Chan. There is something profound about the show, and I can’t wait to discover what exactly it is. The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 2 was funny, emotional, and surprisingly deep. This is a series to watch out for.
