Netflix’s Vampires vs. the Bronx Review: Don’t Mess With the Folks of BX!

Vampires vs. the Bronx premiered on 2nd October 2020 on Netflix. Directed by Osmany Rodriguez and written by Osmany Rodriguez and Blaise Hemingway, the film stars Jaden Michael, Gerald W. Jones III, and Gregory Diaz IV alongside other cast members.

Kill Em’ With…Garlic, Wooden Stick, and Unity!

Vampires vs. the Bronx opens with the owner of a shop in the Bronx, who just sold her store to Murnau Properties, being bitten by a vampire immediately after signing it over – before she even had the chance to touch her cheque. You get a feeling that something’s fishy about Murnau from the first episode itself.

The story continues with Miguel (Jaden Michael), popularly known as L’il Mayor in the Bronx, putting posters in his neighbourhood about organizing a benefit block party to save a bodega whose owner is very close to him and his friends. As the story progresses, we see that Murnau owns a whole bunch of shops in the Bronx but Miguel soon realizes that there is something amiss, namely, vampires! His vampire theory is nullified by everyone though and he’s mocked. However, not for a long time as the vampires plan to kill everyone and take over their city.

Vampires vs. The Bronx

Vampires vs. the Bronx Netflix is an 86-minutes-long film that is engaging and fun and you won’t feel bored or disconnected from the screenplay or the characters. The film is dramatic overall and also works as a subtle commentary on the negligence of the government/authorities towards certain strata of people and how it causes them to take the wrong path or get killed. It also fits well in the horror-comedy genre, making the movie a smooth and enjoyable ride with a few roadblocks here and there which are ignorable.

The dialogues are not very complex, keeping in view that the lead characters are kids, but instead, they are amiable. As Miguel (Jaden Michael), Luis (Gregory Diaz IV), and Bobby (Gerald W. Jones III) put themselves at risk to save their town and also seek vengeance, their journey on their cycles becomes quite an interesting watch. Additionally, the town coming together is an expected moment but worth the wait.

The film is set in a humble neighbourhood in the Bronx and therefore, the movie, the surrounding environment and the characters complement the overall theme. There are no extravagant shenanigans but rather, intricately and simply-built places and people.

Vampires vs. The Bronx

STREAM IT! Vampires vs. The Bronx is not a movie where you will find excellent graphics or unconventional, never-seen-before vampire stories like in other shows. The film is rather light on your head and a good watch if you’re looking for something refreshing with a hint of childhood nostalgia.

Also, today I learnt that vampires cannot enter your house without invitation, holy water boils near them, and that garlic is vampire repellent! A few fun and interesting vampire facts to see and know are embedded in Vampires vs. The Bronx with some seriously handsome vampires.

Vampires vs. The Bronx is now streaming on Netflix.
