Hotstar’s Hostages 2 Review: Twist, Turns, Danger but all in Slo-mo!

Hostages 2 premiered on 9th September 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the series stars Ronit Roy, Dino Morea, Divya Dutta, Shweta Basu Prasad, Shibani Dandekar,  Shilpa Shukla, Amit Sial, Kanwaljit Singh, Dalip Tahil, Surya Sharma, Aashim Gulati, Anangsha Biswas, and Mohan Kapur.

Picking Up From Where It Left…

Hostages 2 starts from the point it ended in season 1 i.e., the successful kidnapping of CM Handa (Dalip Tahil). Prithvi is still the passionate and kind-hearted mastermind protagonist of the series. In season 2, they are struggling to hide Handa and also saving Prithvi’s ailing wife’s life. Somehow, their whole journey to Kathmandu is derailed and they are forced to stay in an old house which is in a dilapidated situation, faking a hostage situation.

It is here that the bone-marrow transplant would take place between CM Handa and his illegitimate daughter aka Saba (Shriswara Dubey), Prithvi’s wife! The ATS arrives outside the house thinking they are terrorists and have made civilians hostages, and so has the police negotiator Ayesha Khan(Divya Dutta), and everything is being run by ATS chief Karnail Singh (Kanwaljit Singh).

Hostages 2

When I started the journey of 12 episodes, I eventually thought the series is a slow burn but as I progressed I realized that the series in itself is slow-paced and it gets predictable and a bit boring! You just want to forward it a bit because 40 minutes x 12 episodes, where the episodes are just stretched with no crisp and sharp turns gets boring.

Dino Morea and Shibani Dandekar, who looked like a good addition to the season, too were pulled with the stretched script. In comparison to Hostages S1, which was more interesting, this season doesn’t exactly work the charm. In an attempt to bring more depth to the characters, there are a lot of unnecessary side-stories that drag the show down.

Hotstar's Hostages 2 Review: Twist, Turns, Danger but all in Slo-mo!

Hostages 2 does not lack fear, twist, or turns but it isn’t exactly the edge of the street or attention-grabbing season you would want to watch. With an amazing cast and a better pulled off storyline, the series could have been a better version of S1. The season tries to tell a lot in an uninteresting way and the importance of the matter fades away with each passing minute, killing off the suspense as well. There is stagnation due to the stretch and therefore, the series is not binge-worthy.

Hotstar's Hostages 2 Review: Twist, Turns, Danger but all in Slo-mo!

If you have been following Hostages, then Hostages 2 is important progress for the story, but if you have a choice, skip it! The problem is neither the cast nor the twists and turns but the storyline that is stretched like gum!
Divya Dutta as an ace Police Negotiator plays a mind-blowing role and is the only watchable factor.

Hostages 2 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
