An adaptation of the Turkish book titled Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?, which translates to ‘What is Fatmagül’s Crime?, Netflix’s recent Spanish thriller titled Alba is a hard watch. The story is one tragic fight of a woman who seeks justice after she is drugged and raped by multiple men. The titular character’s fight, the obstacles that come her way to perish her and her ultimate win is a journey that overwhelms you to the core.

Unbelievable (2019)

A true crime miniseries starring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever, Unbelievable revolves around the series of rapes that took place in Washington State and Colorado between the years 2008 to 2011. Susannah Grant, Ayelet Waldman and Michael Chabon are the creators of the show based on the 2015 news article An Unbelievable Story of Rape, written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, and their 2018 book A False Report.

Created, written, co-directed, executively produced and starring by Michaela Coel, I May Destroy You is an award-winning series that deserves all the hype it gets.

A four-part psychological thriller, Apple Tree Yard is adapted from the 2013 novel of the same name by Louise Doughty (she is also the creator of the show). It features Emily Watson and Ben Chaplin in the lead roles. The other cast members include Mark Bonnar, Steven Elder, Kezia Burrows, Susan Lynch, Franc Ashman, Olivia Vinall and more.

The show is streaming now on Hulu. Lies and Deceit (2020)

Also known as Mentiras, this Spanish thriller is a remake of the British series Liar. Directed by Norberto López Amado and Curro Novallas, the series stars s Ángela Cremonte and Javier Rey in major roles.

Available now on Netflix, the description for the thriller reads: “A literature teacher seeks justice against a surgeon she claims date raped her, while he vehemently denies her accounts of the encounter.”

Rectify (2013-2016)

A tragic and heartfelt tale of a man seeking the ultimate justice in life, Rectify is created by Ray McKinnon. It stars Aden Young, Abigail Spencer, J. Smith-Cameron, Adelaide Clemens, Clayne Crawford and Luke Kirby and, has been critically praised for the four seasons it has run.
