1899 Ending Explained
From what we know after watching the series, Maura learns that she is not some random passenger on a steamship, but rather living inside a limbo of simulation, curated by her father. Moreover, she also makes Captain Eyk aware of the situation and takes his help to find a way out of the loop.
Maura’s husband Daniel, confronts her about the past and reveals her real identity as a scientist. He states that she is the only one who can get everyone out of the stimulation if she remembers to find the key. At first, Maura is suspicious of Daniel’s attempt, but later understands the truth behind the whole setup.
However, it becomes too late for everyone, as Maura’s father initiates the grand shutdown. Daniel further explains that this would lead into another loop, and destroy all their efforts so far. Moreover, if the evil father gets possession of Muara’s kid, along with the key, he would make sure that none of it ever happens again.
The antagonist almost succeeds in the process and confiscates the kid and her mother. Furthermore, he even tries to turn around Maura’s kin and sedates her with the memory-erasing serum. We are made to believe that all the efforts went into vain, until Maura wakes up in a small room, instead of a steamship.

It is revealed that Daniel was successful in the hunch of overriding the entire code. And also replaced the key with his Maura’s ring, along with the Pyramid cube. During the last emotional moment, he asks her to complete the procedure, and wake up to reality. Laura hesitatingly repeats the process and ends up in a totally different place.
In the last few scenes, we can see Maura waking up from limbo, and finding herself in a space station. Finally, we get to know that Maura was inside an orbiting capsule, along with all the passengers of the steamship. Eventually, she gets a message on her screen from her brother, who welcomes her to reality in 2099. Therefore, revealing that it wasn’t the evil father, but the brother, who was behind the experiment.
The strange set of events that resulted in the head-scratching climax, ensures that there will be a season 2, exploring the reality of Muara’s brother. However, there is no such confirmation from the streaming platform yet.
