Woman of the Dead Season 2 Review
Season 2 picks (almost) up right where it left off in the first season and Blum is immediately pushed to act when the police find an extra head inside a coffin. She immediately comes under fire for the crime because of the nature of dead body parts in the coffin which were found in one of her client’s coffins. The first season of this Austrian crime-thriller was quite the lukewarm experience because of its uneven pacing. I found the second season to be an unnecessary addition, unfortunately, and although I think the manifestation of grief makes for a great watch in TV shows, Woman of the Dead brings forth another kidnapping to raise the stakes for Blum.

Considering how sloppy Blum was in the last season, one would expect that the police would have a slam-dunk case against her. However, the police continue to writhe around trying to apprehend her while having no idea about Schönborn and his associates’ dirty scheme. Joining Blum’s pursuit is Johanna Schönborn who desperately wants to know what happened to her son while trying to hold her business together. The series is desperately slow and nothing happens for long lengths of time. Although we are intrigued by this video and what it might hold, viewers will be able to have an inkling of its contents considering a shadowy organisation wants it.
However, I think Woman of the Dead gets Blum’s messy character right. Although it’s annoying sometimes, I think Anna Maria Mühe does a great job of bringing in a desperate mother who will go to any lengths to save her children and keep them safe. Although she makes a ton of mess, her desperation makes viewers root for her and Mühe brings that emotion out beautifully. The series hinges on her character’s growth and her drive to do right by her family which is a big part of the series. I think it’s interesting to watch her emotions and it makes an impact on the viewers thoroughly.

That being said, it doesn’t make the series move fast enough. Emotions aside, the season aims to bring Blum’s life and past a full circle delivering karma and bringing more shocking truths to life to disturb viewers. The crimes showcased in this series are nothing short of disturbing and viewers will find themselves uncomfortable in their seats with everything that is thrown their way. Regardless, at times you will find yourself wishing the series to get to the point. The series’s world-building, however, is stunning and every shot is so beautiful that you won’t be able to look away. Regardless of the pace, Blum’s determination drives the series effortlessly.
In the end, Woman of the Dead holds on to its mystery well from start to last. Although it’s not particularly gripping and disturbing, I think it does a great job as a light thriller with sinister undertones. Viewers are left to wonder whether Blum will find Nela throughout and root for her with all their hearts. Anna Maria Mühe showcases her character’s desperation and is the reason why the series is as arresting as it is. However, I think most viewers will be able to figure out exactly where the story is going this season but even then, the emotional connection takes away what little annoyance viewers might feel with the pacing and some cliched parts of the story.
Final Thoughts

Woman of the Dead Season 2 makes for a dark but ultimately easy watch with not a lot at stake. I think Nela’s kidnapping pushes Blum’s buttons but as a viewer, it feels like we have seen all of this before. I don’t think it’s a terrible watch, but it’s not particularly a memorable one either. I think fans of the first season will find this one to bring all of the open threads to a close, but that’s about it.
