Worst Netflix Horror Movies Without Chills or Thrills

Netflix’s vast content base is mostly a hit or a miss. Sometimes they can truly surprise you and on other occasions, they will leave you utterly and thoroughly bored out of your minds.

Horror movies, however, need care and attention to not be boring or feature unnecessary gore in the name of scares. But what happens when a horror movie just doesn’t feature anything of note and leaves you yawning throughout its feature-length runtime?

Written and directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, this 2018 release gets everything wrong - from dull and uninteresing characters to a stalking storyline that never really goes anywhere, this horror film, starring 13 Reason Why’s Dylan Minnette, is a snoozefest.

The Open House (2018)

It’s possible for horror movies to not always nail it, but 2022’s Texas Chainsaw reboot, directed by David Blue Garcia and starring Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher and Mark Burnham, is an embarrassing 9th film in the franchise. Without any moments of suspense and several moments of utter cringiness, this slasher was better left forgotten. However, the gore elements were quite enjoyable.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

An adaptation of the famous anime series of the same name which is worth the watch any time of the year, the same can’t be said about the live-action adaptation starring Nat Wolff and LaKeith Stanfield in lead roles. The anime is a gritty discussion on morality and is captivating in every sense of the term. Unfortunately, the movie just goes the opposite way in all aspects.

Death Note (2017)

The premise of this movie is extremely intruiging but this horror flick, starring Iola Evans and Asa Butterfield and directed by Toby Meakins, isn’t able to bring forth that uniqueness on the screen. It ends up being a meandering and confusing movie about video games and… stuff.

Choose or Die (2022)

There’s something to be said about these “obsession” movies that Netflix churns out every few months and this 2019 film, starring Brenda Song and Mike Vogel, is just cringy. No other word describes this movie better than that!

Secret Obsession (2019)

Adapted from a Stephen King novella of the same name, this movie, starring Patrick Wilson, Harrison Gilbertson and Laysla De Oliveira, suffers from the curse of trying to adapt King’s deep and diverse world to a 90-minute runtime. While the world-building in hte novella will give you chills in every page, the movie isn’t able to get the same feel forward and ends up feeling dull and, frankly, boring.

In the Tall Grass (2019)

The problem with this horror film, starring biggies like Kiernan Shipka, Stanley Tucci, Miranda Otto, and John Corbett, is that it doesn’t say anything new. It’s a formulaic horror story featuring horrible outerwordly creatures with a cult in the middle. The pacing is dreadful and it’s so boring that you might just give up in the middle of it.

The Silence (2019)

This one could’ve been a really interesting and fun look, had it been a short-film. Unfortunately, it wasn’t and the 85-minute runtime is too much for the very limited storyline that is stretched beyond redemption. Starring Carmen Ejogo in the lead, this horror flick will make you ask “why” every few minutes.
