Swift has become such a huge phenomenon that she is also a part of the syllabus at certain universities, with courses such as Psychology of Taylor Swift, Music to Taylor Swift and Literature and more being introduced. The interesting part is that these courses are not exclusive to US universities, but there are also some global institutions that have introduced these. Ghent University recently introduced a course that takes a look at Taylor Swift's songwriting as a part of a literature course. The course takes a look at the singer's songs to delve into the greats of English writing and the themes of their work. Titled, Literature (Taylor's Version), the course aims to make literature more accessible as per the professor who introduced it.
Arizona State University's Department of Psychology has also taken an interest in the singer's music and introduced a course called the Psychology of Taylor Swift. The idea behind it is to use the singer-songwriter's ballads as valuable academic tools. The syllabus consists of different tracks of the singer through which related psychology topics are discussed by the students.
In London too, there was a summer school at Queen Mary University where a course was offered titled Taylor Swift and Literature. It helped students look at her work through a literary lens. The singer is known for her powerful lyrics that evoke emotions and are also structured poetically. The course aimed to study the same.
At the University of Texas, Swift's work is being discussed alongside veteran writers such as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Dickinson. As stated by the description for the course, which is titled Literary Contests and Contexts - The Taylor Swift Songbook, the singer's work is included to be taught alongside that of famous poets. The course mainly studies her four albums, Red (Taylor’s Version), Lover, Folklore and Evermore.
Taylor Swift songs have also made it to the syllabus of top-ranking schools. It was previously reported that the poetic lyrics of Red (Taylor's Version) were being taught at a Stanford University class. The class makes an in-depth analysis of the emotive lyrics and was taught by alum Nona Hungate. The course has been titled All Too Well (10-Week Version).
Among other major educational institutions, New York University also ran a course on Taylor Swift's music. The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music introduced the course that discussed Swift as a creative music entrepreneur and the legacy of pop and country songwriters that inspired her. It was introduced in 2022, and soon after, there was a long waitlist for admittance.
