The Disney+ Hotstar series stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains/Victor Timely, Sophia di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Ke Huy Quan as Oruboros/OB and others. The Marvel show was created by Eric Martin. The review is based on the first four episodes of the MCU series.
Loki Season 2 Episode 1 picks up where the makers left us in the last episode of Loki Season 1. Sylvie sends the God of Mischief back to the TVA, but Mobius, Hunter B-15 and others don’t recognise him. It is a twisted game of time that neither Loki nor Mobius nor the viewer can predict.
TVA is in danger as Sylvie kills He Who Remains in Loki Season 1 Episode 6. Despite knowing that the people working at the TVA were robbed of their real lives, Loki wants to save it. Will Loki and others succeed in saving the TVA and save it from the big threat He Who Remains had warned them about?
The new season doesn’t highlight the multiversal aspect with more variants but the complexities of time. Everyone is running out of time for something or the other. But the main motive of the characters is to save the TVA. Why? We hope to get a better answer by the end of the season.
Characters are jumping from one timeline to another and from one era to another to seek answers/help. In the fourth episode, the most drama/twists happen, and the ending only leaves your jaw-dropped.
The first four episodes are quite fascinating and build your curiosity to know what will happen next. Every episode ends with a good cliffhanger, leaving you with multiple possibilities/theories of how the story shapes further. But you are still confused about the intention of the series and how it will fit into the bigger picture of Marvel’s multiversal concept.
Tom Hiddleston brings so much sincerity to his performance as Loki that we forget it’s the same God of Mischief who tried to destroy New York City in 2012. That doesn’t mean there’s any lack of Lokiness. We get to see some mischief and some darkness the character still possesses. Tom plays Loki with such conviction and expresses so much with his eyes, especially in emotional scenes.
Ke Huy Quan as Oruboros/OB is an incredible addition to Loki Season 2 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is such a delight to watch on screen, with his character being so knowledgeable, unknowingly funny and cute. Quan plays a pivotal role in the TVA and the series and is shouldered with a big responsibility that will decide everyone’s fate.
Tara Strong’s voiceover for Miss Minutes is one of the best highlights of the new season. We were all curious about the clock’s reality and what it wants. Well, you will be startled to see Miss Minutes’ whims and fancies and her truth. Tara brings the right emotion required for the clock to deliver in certain scenes that will astonish you.
