With the birthday of the Nawab of Bollywood almost here, i.e. August 16, it only makes sense to celebrate it in an apt manner by watching his movies. So, here we bring you 8 Saif Ali Khan Movies that are timeless and loved by us all.
Directed by the famous director duo Abbas-Mastan, Race is the perfect thriller and perhaps the best one Bollywood has ever produced. Headlined by Saif Ali Khan along with Akshaye Khanna, who are brothers Ranvir and Rajiv, respectively, the movie explores their business relationship and how it affects their personal relationship, upping the stakes of both in the process.
Adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello, Omkara has been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Saif plays Langda Tyagi (Iago’s counterpart), the main antagonist in the movie. His visibly scary portrayal of the character is still fresh in the minds of the audience and makes it one of the actor’s finest works, if not the finest work.
A classic by Imtiaz Ali, this movie is a must-watch romantic flick that majorly contributed to the reinvention of romantic stories in Hindi cinema. Along with Saif, the movie features Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor. Veer Singh (Rishi) tells his love story to Jai (Saif), who has just had a breakup with his girlfriend Meera (Deepika). The rest is history.
One need not be reminded of how Shah Rukh Khan’s Aman helped Saif’s Rohit win the heart of Preity Zinta’s Naina in this Karan Johar directorial. This was when Bollywood was at its peak, and we wanted nothing more than to watch these actors on our television sets. If you are a sukcer for romance, and if I may, unrequited love, watch this one, again.
Based on Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1914 novel of the same name, Parineeta has been directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Saif pulls one of his most soothing performances as Shekhar, nicely coordinating with the sweet nuances offered by Vidya Balan’s Lalita. He even received a Best Actor Filmfare nomination for the part.
Love is complicated. This is the base of Cocktail, featuring Saif along with Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. Directed by Homi Adajania, it shows what happens when Veronica (Deepika) enters the lives of Gautam (Saif) and Meera (Diana), both of whom have come to London for a job and also to get married to each other - a confusing but satisfying watch.
A cult classic, this movie takes us back to the 90s, the era of over-the-top action and dialogues worthy of being printed on your t-shirt. Alongside Saif, who is an actor named Deepak Kumar, Main Khiladi Tu Anari also stars Akshay Kumar as police officer Karan Joglekar. What starts as Kumar shadowing Officer Joglekar for a role ends up in a game of life and death when the officer’s brother is murdered. A completely fun watch.
Another romantic musical, Hum Tum is a quintessential Bollywood movie featuring Saif and Rani Mukerji. Karan (Saif) is a cartoonist and gives shape to his love-hate relationship with Rhea (Rani) via two of his characters, Me and You. How this whole thing blooms into love is what the movie is all about. It has been directed by Kunal Kohli.
