Ahn Hyo-seop and Jeon Yeo-been star in this Korean drama-romance-fantasy series directed by Kim Jin-won that is based on the Taiwanese television series Someday or One Day.
The story follows Jun-hee, who is left heartbroken after her boyfriend, Yeon-jun, suddenly dies. However, her life turns upside down when, one day, she is suddenly transported to 1998 and has to live in the body of high-schooler Min-ju, whose friend Si-heon looks exactly like her deceased spouse.
A Time Called You might catch your heart thanks to its mysterious premise and heartwarming romance, but its well-made murder-thriller aspect is equally entertaining and keeps you guessing till the last moment.
The series, in spite of its huge 12 episodes runtime, never fails to catch your attention, whether it be the reletable characters, the amazing OST or the actors who have done nothing but a brilliant job of portraying the complex emotions of these different people.
Apart from some great performances, the series' storyline is both heartfelt and thrilling and all the different characters introduced have some role to play in the lives of the protagonsists.
While it manages to hold your attention with its romantic angle, which is also, by all accounts, the heart and soul of the show, by introducing the mystery aspect, it keeps things moving at the great pace, thus breaking up the story with different elements.
The emotional moments showcased are never surface level and there are several elements at play in A Time Called You and several layers to peel back at every level.
The portrayals of trauma and grief are also quite realistic and they really pinch your heart at every moment. Although the series ends on sort of a happy cliffhanger, it makes sense for this wild ride of a series.
A Time Called You has 12 episodes, each with a runtime of 60+ minutes. The series is now streaming on Netflix.
