Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 4 Overview

Urusei Yatsura returns to breathe new life into the “boy meets extraordinary girl” genre. This anime masterpiece combines elements of comedy, romance, and sci-fi, enriched with a generous dose of humorous gags.

Once again, the series boasts a talented trio of directors at its helm. Among them is Takahashi Hideya, renowned for his contributions to Sword Art Online, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru, To LOVE-Ru, and more. The other directors include Kamei Takahiro, known for his work on Enen no Shouboutai, Captain Tsubasa (2018), and others, as well as Kimura Yasuhiro, who lent his expertise to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Episode 4 of Urusei Yatsura 2nd Season can also be called the 4th episode of うる星やつら第2期.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 4 Review and Recap – Mendo Has A Fiance?

This episode again talks about two separate stories, each very funny. The first story is where we see Kurama asking for the hottest man on the planet to continue her lineage. Apparently, she is concerned that her bloodline might not go on, and hence, asks her minions to search for someone as soon as possible.

The minions promise they have been searching for the best candidate all this time with the help of a computer, but that is not true. Only after she tells them, they finally use a supercomputer and put in all the necessary things Kurama likes to get a match for her. Surprisingly, the match is none other than Rei.

Rei is the man who used to be Lum’s fiance and Ran’s current love interest. Even though Rei gets so much attention, he is ignorant of everything and is only interested in food and occasionally Lum. Perhaps the funniest scene of the episode, was when a strong wind blew past them Ran, she grabbed Rei, but Rei grabbed the bag of food behind Ran. They did look like a loving couple embracing each other, but that was obviously not the case.

Kurama thus kidnaps the man of her dreams, blissfully unaware of his actual form. And Ran obviously will not let any woman take her beloved from her. Thus, she goes to her best friend for help and even gets the additional company of the very irritating Ataru.

The next part of the episode revolves around the Mendo household, where Mendo is forcefully getting hitched with a fiance. Even though he is initially reluctant, he quickly agrees to a match when he realizes the perks. But the whole scenario becomes complicated when he hears that he will have to marry the sister of Tobimaru, his lifelong enemy.

Mendo still agrees to the pact and snoops around the Mizunokouji house to find his fiance, who looks pretty different from what he expected. This part is also very funny as we suddenly see Ataru inside the Mendo household asking for a fiance for himself, even though he does not belong to the family.

Verdict

In this episode, Ataru literally takes a supporting role and is mainly there to offer comic relief, which he does brilliantly. Even though we all know just how crazy Ataru is about girls, the joke of him trying it on with every girl never gets old. This anime is really great for a quick laugh for its entertaining yet bizarre characters.
