The Traitors Review: The Twisted Game of Treachery Will Keep You Hooked!

The Traitors is a brand-new reality TV game show that premiered on January 12, 2023. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the series takes place in Scotland. An ensemble of A-list celebrities joins the thrilling game of deceit to win the ultimate prize of a quarter of a million dollars.

Various television personalities who previously participated in reality shows appear in this season. The ensemble cast includes Arie Luyendyk Jr. (The Bachelor), Brandi Glanville (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Cirie Fields (Survivor), Cody Calafiore (Big Brother), Kate Chastain (Below Deck), Kyle Cooke (Summer House), Rachel Reilly (Big Brother), Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset), Ryan Lochte (professional swimmer and 12-time Olympic medalist), Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick (Survivor) and Geraldine Moreno (actress).

Additional contestants include Christian De La Torre (Veteran & Van Life Influencer), Michael Davidson (DMV office manager), Andie Thurmond (director of music services), Quentin Jiles (political analyst), Shelbe Rodriguez (public affairs manager), Robert “Bam” Nieves (tech sales executive), Anjelica Conti (hair stylist), Azra Valani (yoga instructor) and Amanda Clark (emergency room nurse).

The official synopsis of the show reads as follows:

Hosted by Alan Cumming, this unscripted competition series is a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game. Twenty contestants (including reality A-listers) come together to complete a series of challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize. The catch? Three of the contestants coined “the traitors” will devise a plan to steal the prize from the other contestants coined “the faithful.”

-The Traitors Review Contains No Spoilers-

After witnessing the surge of awfully bad “unscripted” reality series, I had to manage my expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised as the show consisted of some of the most unique and intricate games and the main task of finding the Traitors. The episodes progressively became tenser, and relationships started to fall out.

The show’s premise is that three ‘Traitors’ out of the contestants will be chosen at the beginning of the game, and the ‘Faithfuls’ have to find and eliminate them. If they fail to do so, the total prize money will be won by the ‘Traitor’/’Traitors’. In every episode, the chosen ‘Traitors’ murder one participant, and the ‘Faithfuls’ have to choose the one they think is the culprit and will get banished from the game.

Apart from the exciting tasks, Alan Cumming’s charming presence is the best part of the episodes. In a thick Scottish accent and vibrant outfits, and with his cryptic announcements, he steals the show every time he is on-screen. With a positive attitude and witty humour, he makes every contestant comfortable and makes them feel at home. His magnetic aura instantly turns the atmosphere into a positive one.

However, the drama, the suspense and the build-up will keep one engaged. The goal of winning the ultimate prize is the only thing the participants truly care about, and they go to every length to secure it. Backstabbing and lying were a piece of cake for most of them. But some, unlike others, did form genuine relationships with each other. After spending a long time together, the people grew closer, making them emotionally vulnerable.

The Traitors Review: Final Thoughts

It is undoubtedly one of the best game shows I have ever watched. The tasks, the scenic locations and Alan Cumming are the best elements of the series. Viewers are bound to get invested in the show and root for their favourite players. Watching the contestants repeatedly make wrong decisions will frustrate one, which makes a show incredible! It will manage to keep you engaged throughout, a binge-worthy series indeed.

After a while, the contestants get too emotionally involved with the game, leading to many dramatic moments. So grab your popcorn and enjoy the show; this series is a rollercoaster ride.
