The Night Agent Season 2 Ending Explained

In season 2 of The Night Agent, we start with Peter and his new partner Alice on a mission in Bangkok which goes absolutely terribly, resulting in Alice getting murdered. Faced with terrifying danger and with no backup, Peter goes AWOL in order to save his life. Later on, his handler Catherine Weaver tries desperately to locate him, in spite of her apprehension surrounding his hiring, and gets in touch with Rose who is also searching for Peter after a mysterious phone call alerts her about his disappearance.

Although the Night Agent program is unable to locate him, Rose uses her technological skills to find him out and comes across him when he is actively being pursued by a gang of people to murder him. Afterwards, Rose convinces him to get in touch with Catherine and implores the two of them to get over their differences so that they can together figure out what is going on with their mission. With this, they get together and start to focus on figuring out how their enemies are getting all of this leaked information about them.

Elsewhere, Noor, the aide to the Iranian diplomat Abbas, is trying to find a safe passage for her family in Iran and is selling out state secrets using her position to the CIA. She gets embroiled in Peter’s mission when he comes across a photo that she had taken of Abbas with Solomon. He asks her to get pictures of the inside of a bag that he was carrying in exchange for her family’s freedom. A desperate Noor agrees to these demands and she, Peter and Rose pull off a daring heist with a few hiccups.

Through these incidents, the Night Agent team learns about Foxglove and how some people are trying to get their hands on the chemicals needed to recreate it. As they desperately try to figure out who these people are, they arrest Solomon, who is entirely unhelpful and refuses to tell them anything. Thus, Catherine goes to meet Moseley while Rose meets one of the chemists who created the poison in order to learn what compounds these people are after. Peter is left behind to babysit Solomon.

Of course, things don’t go as intended and Rose and the professor are caught by Viktor’s men. Peter takes Solomon out of detention to meet Jacob and end this once and for all. In The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 8, he is instructed to get a file from the UN headquarters and he calls Noor for help, who takes him to a trap set by Javad. Meanwhile, Dr Cole and Rose are abducted by Tomás Bala and Markus, who force them to create the KX poison. Thankfully, Rose is able to get through to Tomás about the destruction this poison will create, while Peter gets through to Noor about the danger that awaits them all after she is able to speak to her mother.

In The Night Agent Season 2 finale, Markus and his team arrive at the UN with their things while Peter learns about Viktor Bala and how he had used KX against his own people after the US allegedly sold him the compound. They finally get together outside the UN to get this nightmare solved once and for all. As Peter and Catherine go inside with the police to find Markus, Rose stays behind to monitor the cameras and find him before it’s too late. Markus’s plan is eventually thwarted when the police find the KX on the rooftop and take it out and Peter and Rose find Markus with Sloane, holding her hostage to use her private jet.

After killing him, Rose tells Peter that the KX is set to deploy in the hotel in 6 minutes and the two rush to get as many people out before it kills thousands. However, with time running out Peter and Rose create a spontaneous fire using sulphuric acid and ethanol to stop the HVAC system and smother the KX inside in the nick of time. Everyone is relieved and Viktor gets the fated phone call that his plans were a failure.

Later, Peter tells Rose to forget about him in order to protect herself and have a normal life while Catherine gives Peter the same deal his father was given – to become a double agent instead of going to prison. Meanwhile, Jacob meets Governor Hagan and hands over the information Peter had stolen from the UN. Interestingly enough, a few weeks later, Patrick Knox voluntarily got out of the race for the presidency and, as it turns out, when he was heading the CIA, he created and sold Foxglove to Viktor Bala.

In the end, Catherine asks Peter to look into the exact nature of Jacob’s relationship with Hagan so that every information that goes through the Resolute Desk does not end up at the hands of the highest bidder. She essentially asks him to work for Jacob and solve this from the inside, which he takes up.
