The Kingdom Season 3: Will the Netflix Political Drama Return For Another Season?

The Kingdom Season 3 will be making its way to Netflix or not, let’s explore the possibilities. Recently The Kingdom Season 2 (El Reino: Temporada 2) was released on 22nd March 2023 with 6 episodes. It took the story of Emilio forward, as we were left on a cliffhanger in the first season.

The Argentinian political crime drama is created by Marcelo Piñeyro and Claudia Piñeiro and co-directed by Marcelo & Miguel Cohan. The main cast of the series includes Diego Peretti as Emilio Vázquez Pena, Chino Darín as Julio Clamens, Nancy Dupláa as Roberta Candia, Joaquín Furriel as Rubén Osorio, Peter Lanzani as Tadeo Vazquez and Mercedes Morán as Elena Vázquez Pena.

The latest season shows that two years have passed and Pastor Emilio is the president of Argentina but things aren’t going exactly as he had hoped. He is a mere puppet in Osorio’s hand but rather than concede, Emilio pushes on, gathering new allies with his driver Daniel Botardi and even an army of his own, which he will use to bring about a reign of terror.

In an all-out struggle between good and evil, his adversary is Tadeo, who has unwittingly become a populist leader and won’t shrink from his mission of unveiling the truth about Emilio. We see that along with Emilio, Osorio is also struggling with the ghost of his past, while Tadeo finds strength by helping other people.

Will The Show Return With The Kingdom Season 3?

In the end, we see that Alejandra Orsi tries to reveal how Emilio has been abusing the young boys of the Church of light – who were later displaced to different locations by Remigio. She live broadcasts the testimonial from one of the boys but it gets cut by Emilio’s men, as he tries to flee from the coup set-up he had organised.

Tadeo already had an inkling about something like this happening that’s why he decided to come to the venue himself & take the mic when the broadcast is cut. He reveals how he was abused by the Pastor as well but before he could complete his whole speech, Daniel Botardi shoots him in the chest & Tadeo dies on the spot – while everyone watching the broadcast witnesses it.

The secret services take control of the situation pretty quickly & we see that the new administration has taken over office as Emilio has resigned. A state of siege has been declared and the National Congress has been dissolved to restore law & order. However, Tadeo’s sacrifice doesn’t go to waste as we see that people are writing ‘Tadeo Lives’ on the walls, as the police officials walk on.

It leaves a brim of hope amidst all the chaos, as many more people have joined the movement that Tadeo started. While Jonathan continues to do the same work with Yaeli, to help other people on the road. While Netflix has called it the final season of the series and no other update has been announced about the continuation of the show – there are some questions that remain unanswered & could be explored.

The Kingdom Season 3 Possibilities

One of the confusing mysteries is Remigio Cardenas & and whether he is alive or dead. As we see the hospital staff putting Osorio in the van, the man in charge looks exactly like him & even interacts with Osorio’s partner. That makes us question if that’s his imagination or if Remigio is real & was part of a big plan to get Osorio.

Secondly, Emilio simply resigned from his position but no proceeding against him regarding the abuse was shown. If the show does return for another season, the creators could explore if he gets indicted or not. Because of Tadeo’s death, the remaining boys might fear coming forward, thinking that they will have the same fate.

Also, in the first season, Julio was an ambitious man wanting to prove his worth to his father in the opposition party. However, in the second season, he was almost on the sidelines. In the third season, Tadeo’s demise could become his motivation to come into the limelight and work for good, as he is seen saying that Tadeo lives in him. Also, how will his relationship evolves with Ana, now that she has found comfort in someone else is yet to be explored.

The second season also left out Elena’s part in the stabbing incident by Remigio, as it was shown that she was one of the masterminds behind it as well. And throughout she has been the one to help Emilio with almost everything. Now that his reputation is in the drain, we can see the emergence of Pastor Elena bringing in new antics with it if the show gets renewed.

The Kingdom Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
