The Claus Family 3 Review: A Festive Flick with Familiar Charm, But Fails to Capture the Magic

The Claus Family 3 Review: Directed and written by Ruben Vandenborre. The Belgian movie De Familie Claus 3 stars Jan Decleir as Noël Claus, Amber Metdepenningen as Noor Claus, Mo Bakker as Jules Claus, Bracha van Doesburgh as Suzanne, Sien Eggers as Jet, Kürt Rogiers as Jef, Celest Henri Cornelis as Felix, Yassine Ouaich as Haroun, R. Kan Albay as Pablo, Eva van der Gucht as Gunna and others. The film has a runtime of 74 minutes.

The Claus Family 3 Plot

The movie’s plot centres around the Claus family embarking on an exhilarating holiday adventure, choosing to spend their time on a ski vacation. Noël encourages Jules to meet him in his room once her sister Noor is asleep. However, Noor inadvertently overhears their conversation, sparking suspicion. She stumbles upon a magical globe in her grandfather’s room, which transports her to a wondrous Christmas. Here, she discovers the astonishing truth that her grandfather is Santa Claus. Concerned about the potential danger of Noor revealing this secret and jeopardising Christmas, Jules grapples with the situation. As Noor inadvertently creates complications for Santa, the delivery of gifts spirals into a disaster, leaving Santa Claus in a precarious situation.

The Claus Family 3 Review

In the previous two parts, we learned that Jules’s grandpa is Santa Claus, and he continues to follow this family tradition of delivering gifts with the help of the Magic Globe. The trailer has already hinted that this time, Noor will discover her grandpa’s secret while the family is on a ski vacation. Once she learns about the Magic Globe, she ends up misusing it, which ultimately leads to the revelation of the security of Christmas.

The Claus Family 3 is a heartwarming family film that attempts to blend humour, sentimentality, and the magic of the holiday season into a single package. While it succeeds in delivering some genuinely touching moments and a strong sense of family values, it falls short in certain areas, leaving it as an okay show rather than a standout holiday classic.

The Claus Family 3 Review Still 1

Every character in The Claus Family 3 comes across as relatable. Jan Declair’s brilliant acting as Noel Claus is mesmerizing; it’s exactly what kids would expect a real Santa to be like. Eva van der Gucht, who plays the role of Gunna, stands out with her eccentric, overly dramatic, and humorous character. Noor will make you feel the understanding of how it feels when you get left out. The best part was when the bond between the brother and sister helped them come together and get tough, which shows the family’s positive outlook on life.

The film, however, felt like a repeated tale about Christmas. They didn’t try to embark on an adventure much; instead, they focused more on family drama. This part didn’t show much of Santa and his deliveries, but only about the issues that started to happen after Noor found out about the Christmas Secret and how they were dealing with it. Even the loss of the magic globe wasn’t a big issue, as he already had an extra one, so I didn’t understand why it was necessary to make such a fuss about it.

The love between Suzanne and Jeff also felt rushed, as they didn’t have much screen time, and the problem in their relationship seemed unnecessary and not a real issue, making it feel like an unnecessary subplot. Although Joan intervening in their relationship and wanting to propose work for them will make you laugh.

The production design and visual effects are adequate, but they don’t particularly stand out. The North Pole setting is charmingly portrayed, with vibrant colours and whimsical details, but it lacks the depth and intricacy seen in some other holiday classics. The special effects, especially when Santa is making his first delivery for Christmas, are competently executed in a way that doesn’t reach the level of awe-inspiring wonder that some viewers might hope for.

The Claus Family 3 Review Still 3

Even though the film is around seventy-four minutes long, it feels stretched and unnecessarily divided. The only decent part of the film that forms some sort of connection is when Felix almost falls from the mountain, and Noor tries to save him even though he was the one who bullied her, and because of him, they lost the globe.

The Claus Family 3 is a feel-good film where no villain or bad spirit overpowers the hero, but it’s all about family and the spirit of Christmas. This might be a likeable factor for the kids, as it’s the kind of lazy winter day movie one would want to watch comfortably without having to use their brain. I won’t say that the film was bad or unwatchable, but it could have added more magic to make the audience happier and more connected.

The Claus Family 3 Review: Final Thoughts

The Movie is a heartwarming holiday film that blends humour, sentimentality, and family values. Jan Declair’s portrayal of Santa is captivating, and Eva van der Gucht’s Gunna adds humour and eccentricity. The film emphasizes the importance of family bonds, particularly between Noor and Felix. However, it falls short in some areas, relying too heavily on family drama and missing opportunities for adventure. The subplot with Suzanne and Jeff feels rushed, and the loss of the Magic Globe is downplayed. While the production design is charming, it lacks depth. Despite its shortcomings, it’s a cosy winter day movie for kids. With a bit more magic, it could have been even more special.
