Outlast Season 2 Review

After the insanity that was season 1 of Outlast, viewers might be left to question what awaits the second season and whether the contestants will give up their morals in order to rake up a ton of drama and make things as dirty as possible. Thankfully, in Outlast Season 2, things are more mellow and watchable, with the one common enemy to the survivalists being the wrath of Mother Nature instead of each other. Thankfully, we don’t see the worst of humans this season, giving you some sort of assurance that if and when the world comes to an end, human beings might have a chance of survival after all.
The premise of this show is interesting and the rawness that it brings to our screens compels us to see what’s going to happen next. There’s still some drama this season, but there’s nothing as jarring and icky as the last one and makes you feel at least some amount of compassion for the contestants throughout the runtime. I feel like the best part about the show is how these people survive in the midst of the wilderness with some basic tools and nothing more. It showcases how much one has to work to have simple things like food, water and shelter as well as how much we take everything for granted.

However, there is some gore here in the sense that they do have to hunt for animals to survive and we get to see it up close. So for the viewers who are a bit more squeamish, this one might not be the best fit. But that aside, the hunting moments are truly shocking to watch, and the joy that the little victories bring is heartwarming. You can’t help but watch in awe as they go out every day with a new mission, in the hopes that things are a little bit easier this time around.
Watching survival shows is always entertaining and in the second season the series brings some new, realistic twists that don’t feel like they are making you question your morality while also being thoroughly engaging. The series’ pacing is just perfect to mull over the precarious situation that everyone is in while also not lingering around too much showing the same thing over and over again. Overall, I thought the second season was a really interesting and engaging watch that keeps you rooting for the entire cast of characters.
Final Thoughts

Outlast Season 2 is an engaging affair that makes your heart race but in a good way. The drama is not immoral and there’s comparatively less thievery this time around. It’s always great seeing humans battling nature as a collective force, instead of destroying themselves fighting one another. In the end, lovers of reality shows will thoroughly enjoy this season.
