Naatu Naatu Oscars 2023 Performance: SS Rajamouli’s RRR Song Receive Standing Ovation

The Naatu Naatu Oscars 2023 performance at the 95th Academy Awards, brought actors and crew members together to celebrate films. The prestigious award show is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and, is honouring the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2022. However, along with the awards, performances by the nominees in the Outstanding Original Song category are interspersed within the ceremony.

Hence, the Naatu Naatu Oscars 2023 performance was one that invited some major reactions on the internet as well as the Dolby Theatre, where the ceremony is held. Singers, Rahul Sipliguni and Kala Bhairava were on stage along with a multitude of dancers making their performance an experience. While it did seem like the singers were singing on a prerecorded track, the performance made all the difference.

Critically acclaimed actor, Deepika Padukone was invited to present the performance to the audience. Dressed in a long black gown, the actor was seen beaming widely while announcing the names and introducing the artists behind the global sensational song and music video. Dancers from various backgrounds were involved in the performance, showing the true nature of films bringing the world together.

The song has gone on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song, with MM Keeravani himself, singing a little cover snippet in order to celebrate his win. As Padukone expressed, this song comes at a time during the film when the two characters are starting to become friends by ganging up against the British in a dance battle. This colonial theme in the film has done well with audiences and critics alike, especially with a catchy song like Naatu Naatu.

RRR is a historical fiction film based in colonial India of the 40s. Following the lives of Ram and Bheem in their separate but intersecting life stories, this film received critical acclaim for its extravagant fight sequences and banger soundtrack. It stars N T Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris, alongside other cast members.
