With the fashion event’s red carpet having begun at 6:00 p.m. ET at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, on May 1, 2023, it was about time the Met Gala 2023 memes took over Twitter. Despite nearly everyone having followed the theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ seamlessly, there’s no doubt that the general audience turns up to the annual live-streaming of the event with some set notions, predictions and expectations in mind.
Some internet users felt disappointed since many celebrities never missed a beat to follow the theme and shine bright, but these best dressers didn’t show up for the gala. Zendaya, Tom Holland, Blake Lively, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Timothee Chalamet, Bella Hadid and many others didn’t step out for this year’s extravaganza. Still, at least we all had Rihanna walking in at the last moment, fashionably late.

So what if some of our favourites didn’t show up? And who said Met Gala was an invite-only event, especially when a cockroach waltzed in without prior notice? Unfortunately, it suffered a pitiful end, and the mishap’s reports suddenly became headlines on Variety’s official social media platform.
Moreover, considering that the night’s theme was all about honouring the German fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, a lot of celebrities present at this year’s affair either dressed up in pieces that harked back to the designer’s old creations or they transformed into different visions of his beloved cat, Choupette – looking at Doja Cat, Jared Leto and Lil Nas X.
It’s always expected that women would inevitably rule the biggest night of fashion, and so they did, and netizens applauded them for their efforts as well. However, compared to the presumptions that men would barely come around in their usual black and white tuxedos, some tapped into their inner fashionable alter egos and did justice to the theme this time. BTS fans, however, were taken aback after not seeing Jimin on the red carpet despite several official sources having confirmed his Met Gala debut this year.
