Sometimes, one needs a break from the daily hustle and bustle of shows on different streaming platforms that are just too serious. This Jackie Shroff-Abhishek Chauhan starrer is a light-hearted slice-of-life film that is quite amusing and very watchable; it keeps things moving with funny moments but with an underlying crisis at hand as well. Shroff and Gupta’s storyline is quite amusing as it talks about the loneliness in old age and finding someone to share the remainder of your life with. Meanwhile, Abhishek Chauhan’s problem is a little different, with his rather bad luck making you constantly feel bad for him as he gets into stupid situations.
I think watching Shroff as such a mellow character with a fun streak bourne out of loneliness teaming up with Gupta’s eccentric Punjabi is an entertaining watch definitely. Although the amusing plot is a little weird and very far-fetched, if you’re watching to have fun without too many thoughts, it is extremely fun. The social commentary is not lost – with one person trying to find excitement in his life while the other is trying to find a way to live. The city binds these two people by the same thread as they both get a reason to live and push through the problems in their lives.

That being said, the movie, in spite of some fun and games, is quite the emotional and serious movie that touches your heart after a while. The characters are well-written and well-acted, such that you relate to everyone’s plight as they try to live one more day and realise their dreams. The relationship between these characters and how closeness among unknown people grows is quite the touching watch, and although at some points the story feels a little far-fetched, you really can’t look away as you watch these varied individuals living their lives.
Apart from that, the film’s focus on the increasing number of old folks left alone to their own devices, thereby becoming more vulnerable to crime, is one that everyone needs to take note of. Although it’s shown in a light-hearted manner, and the thief is a softie, the fear is still very real. So is the reality of how dangerous loneliness can be, especially among the older generation. Kamath’s plight at the start of the movie is quite heartbreaking. Thankfully the movie delivers a happy ending; otherwise, my heart would really have broken by the end of the runtime!
As mentioned previously, the movie brings forth some great acting that is truly heart-touching. You are drawn to all the characters and even when they are doing something bad, you can’t help but egg them on. There’s something really sweet and sincere about Shroff’s portrayal of Kamath that draws you to him particularly. On the other hand, Chauhan’s sincere portrayal of Nanhe’s innocence and desperation is sweet to witness as he comes out of his shell and tries to understand the ways of the world. Neena Gupta is as delightful as ever and is quite sweet as the talkative Punjabi with a secret.
Final Thoughts
This sweet and simple movie is about a lot of things – friendships, love, forgiveness and redemption. It’s a feel-good watch that you would love to watch with your family and friends.
The movie is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
