Maamla Legal Hai Season 2 Review

Maamla Legal Hai returns for a second season this week, bringing back the small charms of Patparganj’s District Court and all of its quirky characters in a rather delightful blend of moral obligations, law and justice. The series has always had a special place in my heart since season 1, thanks to its grounded and impressive cast of characters, who are able to win hearts easily because they always do what they think is morally right. Season 2 continues on that trend, bringing forth a few interpersonal problems, VD Tyagi facing his biggest challenge yet, and a sibling rivalry between Ananya and Nayana that makes things all the more exciting.

Of course, along with these, we have several other story arcs for different other characters, including the brewing tension between Mintu and Sujata that takes a very different route than one would expect! The series continues to be a delight, with its relatable characters and situations being told in the most hilarious ways. With a mix of humour and emotion, Maamla Legal Hai Season 2 is a delight and then some, creating a sweet and memorable watch for anyone who enjoys relatable comedies.

The cases this season are unique, like its characters, each with a different flavour to delight us. Some left me completely shocked, while others had me cackling from start to finish. The end of each of these cases is, thankfully, satisfying, although a few will make you think about the state of our judicial system right now. The series, like its first season, continues to bring forth these important topics of conversation and humorously presents them, although, after everything is said and done, one can’t help but be overcome with thought.

I think it’s this great blend of interesting cases and characters that makes this series such a standout among the hundreds of shows that Netflix churns out every year. Every character and their everyday problems are so relatable that they pull on your heartstrings. Their small hopes and dreams continue to become a part of your life throughout its short 8-episode runtime, making it a warm and enjoyable time spent.

Again, the series, in between its small corruptions and laughter, presents a surprisingly big heart that brings forth the atrocities that the marginalised section of society has to face and the gaps in our judiciary that let the guilty get away. The series balances these with humour, but the seriousness remains, even when the solution comes from unlikely sources. None of these stories overstays their welcome, making for a tight and enjoyable watch that keeps us hooked.

The performances continue to be fantastic as well. Ravi Kishan returns as a newly appointed judge this season, and the curious problems that he faces in his new position are hilarious, which Kishan nails every moment of. Nidhi Bisht and Anjum Batra’s Sujata and Mintu are delightfully sweet as they get into a duel that hints at something deeper.

Meanwhile, Naila Grrewal’s slightly delusional but ultimately well-meaning social warrior continues to be delightful, along with Anant Joshi, who is possibly my favourite character in the show. Kusha Kapila joins this season as Nayana, but there’s not a lot that she has to do, and she almost plays herself, so she’s fun as well. Her character, though, is a bit obvious for a legal dramedy like this.

In the end, Maamla Legal Hai might just be one of Netflix’s best Hindi series, as it continues to present society’s issues to its viewers with warmth and humour, sewn together in a tight 30-minute runtime. If you loved the first season, then the second will be equally delightful and tug at your heartstrings. This one is a must-watch.
