Loki Season 2 Review: Plot Summary
Loki Season 2 Episode 1 picks up where the makers left us in the last episode of Loki Season 1. Sylvie sends Loki back to the TVA, but Mobius, Hunter B-15, and others don’t recognise him. Loki notices the statues of He Who Remains there and is baffled by so much happening in such a short time. But what happens after that is a twisted game of time that neither Loki nor Mobius nor the viewer can predict.
TVA is in danger as Sylvie kills He Who Remains in Loki Season 1, Episode 6. Despite knowing that the people working at the TVA were robbed of their real lives, Loki wants to save it. Saving the TVA comes at the risk of him losing his life. But the God of Mischief has truly said goodbye to his deviant side and wants to do better. Will Loki and others succeed in saving the TVA from the big threat He Who Remains warned them about?

Loki Season 2 Review: Discussion
Fans were floored by Loki’s various avatars and the concept of the Time Variance Authority, which oversees or controls everything pertaining to time, when the first season of the MCU’s Disney+ series Loki debuted. The TVA workers don’t take it lightly when someone breaks the rules. We see what happened to all the Lokis who tricked their way through time. But what if I told you that in the new season, it’s the time that plays tricks with our characters?
The new season doesn’t highlight the multiversal aspect with more variants but the complexities of time. Everyone is running out of time for something or another. But the main motive of the characters is to save the TVA. We hope to get a reasonable answer for saving TVA, by the end of the season. Characters are jumping from one kind of timeline to another and from one era to another to seek answers or help. In the fourth episode, the most drama and twists happen, and the ending only leaves you jaw-dropped.

Altogether, the series is mildly intriguing and builds your curiosity to know what will happen next. Every episode ends with a good cliffhanger, leaving you with multiple possibilities or theories of how the story might shape further. However, I am still confused about the intention of the series and how it will fit into the bigger picture of Marvel’s multiversal concept. So much has happened since Avengers: Endgame, especially in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
How is the TVA not affected by the events of these movies? Are Kang and He Who Remains the same people? We have waited long enough to know this, as it has been 2 years, and we know very little of the villain’s core intentions.

We have yet to get answers to the many doors the series, and MCU opened with their new phase. The first four episodes don’t pave the way for any other outside world/characters other than the ones we have seen in season 1. So even halfway through the new season, we can’t pinpoint what’s going on with Victor Timely, and Loki or how it will connect the dots with other movies or shows dealing with the multiversal dilemma.

Loki Season 2 Review: Performances
Tom Hiddleston brings so much sincerity to his performance as Loki that we forget it’s the same God of Mischief who tried to destroy New York City in 2012. That doesn’t mean there’s a lack of Loki-ness. We get to see some mischief and some darkness that the character still possesses. But he now uses his powers to save rather than to destroy. Tom plays Loki with such conviction and expresses so much with his eyes, especially in emotional scenes. It reminds you how underutilised the actor and his character were for so many years.
Owen Wilson as Mobius delivers a good performance. He brings a sensibility to a story full of impulsive characters. But that’s not enough in season 2. So much has happened since season 1, and Mobius, despite doing everything to help, seems unaffected by the truth about the TVA and He Who Remains. But Owen and Tom have such good chemistry on screen. Their bond only strengthens, and the duo sometimes makes you chuckle with their silliness.

Ke Huy Quan as Oruboros/OB is an incredible addition to Loki Season 2 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is such a delight to watch on screen, with his character being so knowledgeable, unknowingly funny, and cute. Quan plays a pivotal role in the TVA and is shouldered with a big responsibility that will decide everyone’s fate. Jonathan Majors returns to the show, but as shown in the trailer, he plays He Who Remains’ variant, Victor Timely. We wait with bated breath to see his entry, and it’s compelling. The character is nothing like we had expected.
Tara Strong’s voiceover for Miss Minutes is one of the best highlights of the new season. We were all curious about the clock’s reality and what it wanted. Well, you will be startled to see Miss Minutes’ whims and fancies and her truth. Tara brings the right emotion required for the clock to deliver in certain scenes that will astonish you. The rest of the Loki cast—Sophie Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Wunmi Mosaku—are impressive in their respective performances.

Loki Season 2 Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Loki Season 2 is about time playing its trick and looming over the TVA and everyone who’s a part of it. The first four episodes are engaging and build good mystery and excitement. But you still don’t get a single hint of how it fits into everything that Marvel has released so far. It seems like a completely different world that is not in danger due to how other superheroes have tampered with time or the multiverse.
Loki Season 2 Episode 1 releases on October 6 at 6:30 am IST on Disney+ Hotstar.
