June 2022 Horror Movies: Crimes of the Future, Watcher and More!

Another new month brings a fresh slate of horror movies to look out for. Horror is a way for fans to get up close and personal with the topics that make them uncomfortable. If you’re someone who loves being shocked, surprised and left reeling, then this June 2022 horror movie list is what you definitely need in your life right now. Keep reading to know more:

June 2022 Horror Movies

1. Crimes of the Future

David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future is already making headlines at the Cannes Film Festival, thanks to its very gory subject matter. However, there’s something about a celebrated director working with well-known actors in a horror movie that makes us extremely interested to know what it’s about! Coming back on the director’s chair 8 years after Maps to the Stars, Cronenberg’s body horror flick shares its title with a 1970 film, but incidentally isn’t a remake of it.

Starring Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart in lead roles, the film takes place in a distant future where human beings’ evolution has brought them to a place where harvesting freshly produced organs in front of a live audience has become commonplace. Honestly, I am going to leave you with that – feel like this one line captures a lot about this movie!

Release: June 2

2. Watcher

It Follows’s Maika Monroe comes back to the big screen to give us yet another thriller-horror to be scared of. Directed by Chloe Okuno, the film stars Monroe along with Karl Glusman and Burn Gorman in pivotal roles. The film follows Julia, whose move to Bucharest with her boyfriend brings a horrible situation to her isolated life in a foreign country when a supposed stalker starts to terrorise her. The movie promises to be chilling and give a glimpse into the life of a woman who might just be getting gaslighted pretty hard.

Release: June 3

3. Dashcam

I think June would’ve been destitute without a “computer screen” horror film. Bob Savage, director of the very enjoyable Host, and Blumhouse bring us another shaky-cam horror flick that promises to keep you disoriented with our lead Annie, played by Annie Hardy, as she tries to flee from the UK thanks to COVID by gets herself in a situation which is much worse than any virus out there!

Release: June 3

4. The Righteous

June would also be quite bare without a religious horror and thus, in comes Mark O’Brien’s The Righteous. The film initially premiered in 2021 at the Fantasia Film Festival and its black and white approach is surely going to interest quite a few viewers. The psychological horror film follows priest Frederick, who blames himself for his daughter’s death and asks for some sort of penance. Unfortunately for him, his wishes are granted… with some not-so-great consequences. This one is a more subdued horror than genre fans might like, but for those who love the intricacies of religion and the depths of guilt, this might just be what you’re looking for.

Release: June 10

5. The Blackphone

The Blackphone, interestingly, stars Sinister’s James Ransone and Ethan Hawke together. So, right off the bat, genre fans can check out this June 2022 horror movie for this reason alone! Scott Derrickson’s adaptation of a 2004 short story by Joe Hill is thrilling in all the right ways. It follows Finney Shaw (Mason Thames) who gets abducted by Grabber one fine day. Waking up in his basement, Finney learns quickly that the disconnected phone in said basement might just be his only way to escape.
