The much-anticipated historical drama Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born poster has been its officially unveiled, featuring an impressive lineup of stars including Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Ra Mi-ran, Jung Eun-chae, and Kim Yoon-hye. Directed by Jung Ji-in, known for his acclaimed work on The Red Sleeve, and with a screenplay written by Cho Hyo-bi, the drama promises to be a poignant exploration of dreams and resilience in post-war Korea.

Jeong Nyeon: The Star is Born (정년이) is adapted from a popular Naver webtoon of the same name. Set in the 1950s, right after the Korean War, the story follows Jeong Nyeong (played by Tae-ri), a young woman determined to escape the harsh realities of her life by pursuing a career in traditional theatre. Living with her mother, portrayed by Moon So-ri, Jeong Nyeong struggles to make ends meet in a time of great economic and social upheaval. Despite the odds, she is captivated by the world of theatre after witnessing a performance led by the charismatic Director Kang So-bok, played by Mi-ran.

This encounter ignites a fervent passion within Jeong Nyeong, compelling her to take a bold step toward her dreams. In a daring move, she stows away with the travelling theatre troupe to Seoul, where she joins a theatre group as a trainee. However, the path to stardom is fraught with challenges, including a fierce rivalry with Heo Young-seo, played by Shin Ye-eun, another aspiring actress in the troupe. Their rivalry adds an intense layer of drama, highlighting the competitive nature of the world Jeong Nyeong aspires to conquer.

The poster itself, which was released on August 21 by tvN, features the main cast in character, dressed in traditional Korean theater attire. The tagline, “The musicians are here to comfort the world during difficult times,” hints at the drama’s underlying theme of finding solace and hope through art. The visual presentation of the characters against a backdrop of vintage theater adds to the nostalgic atmosphere of the series, promising a visually stunning experience that pays homage to Korea’s rich cultural history.
