Doctor Slump Episode 2 Recap

Jeong-woo’s life has brought him to a state where he has nothing left, no comfort and no one who believes in him. At this time, Ha-neul enters his life again and he isn’t the only one shocked by her appearance. The two understand what has happened and recall the competition Jeong-woo began back in school after he was defeated by Ha-neul in the first exam they took after her arrival.

Recalling his petty actions, Ha-neul sighs but does not ponder much about it as she is sure that he wouldn’t stay in her building due to his pride. She then tries to confide in her friend by telling her about her depression but is saddened when not taken seriously. Later, she once again comes across Jeong-woo who tells her that he won’t be moving out.

However, her attitude begins a fire inside him and he tells her that it is their fights like these that make him want to move out. This is all Ha-neul needs as she tells him to look for a place, leaving Jeong-woo shocked, which only gets worse when he comes across Ha-neul’s uncle and brother right after she leaves.

Later, a man tries to sneak inside Jeong-woo’s house which alerts him, but the man runs away before Jeong-woo can see him. The next day, Jeong-woo decides to move to another place but soon faces the reality that doesn’t leave him with many choices due to the trial.

Meanwhile, Dae-young receives complaints from his subordinates to advertise their clinic like Jeong-woo, but he is not ready as he doesn’t want to take Jeong-woo’s place. Instead, he awaits his return to the field again as he believes in Jeong-woo despite badmouthing him constantly.

Later, Jeong-woo receives a call from Kyung-min who tells him that the only thing he could find about Jin-suk was that he doesn’t socialise much and doesn’t panic in any situation. Jeong-woo takes in this information and tells Kyung-min that among all the people in the OR that day, Jin-suk was the only one who hadn’t given his statement to the police.

This makes Kyung-min suspicious as he questions Jin-suk’s hiring and Jeong-woo reveals that Jin-suk has directly come to him with a resume and he didn’t think much when hiring him. This surprises Kyung-min as it was careless on Jeong-woo’s part, he then also advises him against moving out of Ha-neul’s building and gives a rest to his childishness.

Later, Jeong-woo spots Ha-neul at the hospital and follows her to once again begin his petty behaviour and soon the two get into an argument about who defeated whom during their school days. Jeong-woo then tries to talk about the rooftop room but is rejected by her which makes him furious as he tells her how things can change for her too.

He then tells her that she must be happy in life, unaware that Ha-neul has received a message about her next appointment with her psychiatrist. Later, she once again has to face an angry superior who blames her for his mistakes, when suddenly he is called for the surgery of an influential client.

He takes her along and it is seen that his incompetence also includes his performance in the OR when he continuously fails to insert the tubes in the patient. Ha-neul takes over the situation and swiftly completes the task, however, her work doesn’t end after the surgery and continues late in the night.

The next day, she visits her psychiatrist who advises her to take a rest to recover her mental health as her depression is now causing physical distress. Unfortunately, before she can think about taking a break, Ha-neul is blamed for the bruises on the patient’s arm that her superior has repeatedly punctured.

This becomes the breaking point for Ha-neul as she refuses to kneel in his stead and stands up against him. She tells him all about his incompetence in keeping new students interested and his failure in the OR. Finally, she gives him a swift kick and walks out of his room, finally quitting the job that has affected her health.

The news of her quitting soon travels everywhere and reaches her friend Hong-ran who then rushes to find her. However, she ends up revealing the news in front of Ha-neul’s mother which becomes another problem that Ha-neul needs to face immediately. She finally reveals her depressive condition in front of her mother who is not ready to believe that ha-neul could have depression.

This leaves Ha-neul struck as she storms out of her house, unaware that Jeong-woo has overheard their conversation. Later, Ba-da shows his mother the medicine that he found in Ha-neul’s room which leaves her shocked by how bad her daughter’s condition has become without her knowing. Meanwhile, Jeong-woo comes across Ha-neul later that night and offers to go out for some drinks.

Unfortunately, he comes across his high school reunion where he is repeatedly mocked about his ongoing trial and how he took down two of his friends who quit their jobs to manage his NeoTube channel. Jeong-woo cannot stand the accusations for long and storms out of there but is followed by his two friends.

Ha-neul overhears this conversation after which she silently follows Jeong-woo back home, but having had a burdensome day, the two finally decide on getting their drinks somewhere else. Once again, a competition arises between the two as they compete on their drinking capacity which finally leaves them drunk.

In their drunken state, they form a comradeship as Ha-neul’s belief that Jeong-woo is being falsely accused leaves him surprised while Jeong-woo reveals his knowledge about her depression. This leads to Ha-neul finally opening up about her thoughts and what led to her state and the conversation soon turns into a talk about fractures.

Later, while on their way back home Jeong-woo is scared by a man in a black suit which leads him to reveal his fear of people in black suits. Following this, the two once again begin bickering and Jeong-woo tells her that he wishes to flick her forehead just once. The two decide to flick each other’s forehead but after flicking Jeong-woo’s forehead, Ha-neul gets a supportive message from her mother which makes her cry.

Seeing her cry makes Jeong-woo cry and the two drunk doctors cry out their hearts while hugging each other, with no intention to reveal how much they loved the warmth they felt in this moment.

Doctor Slump Episode 2 Review

The first week of this rom-com has come to an end and we have to say that this was an information-loaded premiere, which is a given in Kdramas. It’s only been two episodes and I love the focus on mental health that is brought on through this show and the seriousness that Ha-neul’s family shows for the same.

Meanwhile, Jeong-jae’s childishness that he reveals in front of Ha-neul is a pleasure to watch as this persona of his remains the same in 2009 and the present, but only in front of her. And, certainly, he can only be himself in front of her as the demands of his family are no less than those of the world.

The two protagonists are characters who have been roughed up by the world which turned them into diamonds, however, the pressure around them hasn’t come to an end which is why they are reaching their breaking points. The bonus is the way Park Hyung-sik and Park Shin-hye portray these characters which has certainly led viewers to feel the intense emotions that they are going through in every scene.

Finally, it looks like depression isn’t the only mental health condition that is being shown here and it seems that there is another character with a disorder that could be shown later. Could you guess which one? Let us know down below!
