Crushed Season 2 Review: Lukewarm Series That Makes an Ordinary Attempt

Crushed Season 2 finds the students of LCC, competing in a cultural festival while going through a series of budding emotions. The show is created by Aayush Gaur, Nishad Javeri and Avinash Singh and stars Aadhya Anand in the titular role. Moreover, there are six episodes in the season, directed by Mandar Kurundkar and written by Tatsat Pandey, Abhinav Vaidya, and Sankalp Raj Tripathi with an average run time of 18-35 minutes.

The complete cast of the show includes Urvi Singh as Jasmine, Anupriya Caroli as Zoya, Arjun Deswal as Sahil, Naman Jain as Prateek, Manisha Mehra, Shubham Pandey, Sachin Singh, Narendra Panjwani, Kapil Tilhari, and Anuj Nayak. Furthermore, Ershad Shaikh serves as the cinematographer while Aashay Gatade and Ganesh Sapkal head the editing department.

Crushed Season 2 starts with a little context behind Aadhya and Samvidhan’s relationship (which was eventually spoiled at the end of the first season), and then moves on to a cultural fest ‘Celesta’, in which LCC has a track record of continuous defeats. The storyline of the fresh instalment revolves further around the practice sessions of the students, along with Aadhya’s attempt to move from Sam and find her lost groove.

Moreover, a new student cum debater also makes an appearance in the series and makes the process of moving on, even more, difficult for Aadhya. The trajectory of six episodes takes you through different stages of adolescent love and provides a subtle difference between its pros and cons.

This school crush drama was one of the earliest shows on Amazon Mini TV, and also an extended version of YouTube Snippets. The kind of videos that provide a momentarily feel-good/cute effect on your mind, with a short and confined screenplay. However, when stretched to its maximum limits, the entire setup fails to enact even half of the innocence.

The show heavily relies on the relatability factor and seems to have exhausted every inch of it, during the second attempt. Moreover, it also lacks the heart of the core theme and becomes too mature for its own good. In fact, at one point, it was very hard to digest the overtly layered drama taking place in the 10th Standard (Believe me, I am a GenZ too).

On the acting front, Aadhya Anand and Naman Jain appeared to be the most seasoned performers in the show. And also curated most of the convincing moments throughout the series. Furthermore, I have been an avid follower of Naman Jain’s filmography, right from Balwan in Chillar Party, to the Childhood version of Dhanush in Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa, which makes me believe, that it’s a tried and tested field for an actor with his kind of potential.

Naman Jain is also one of those artists that are simply waiting to erupt in a full-fledged mainstream role, while also impressing us with their calibres in these feel-good series. Apart from that, the show itself fails to justify the extension of its inception material and feels like a necessary stretched YouTube Video.

Crushed Season 2 Final Thoughts

This six-part series is a lacklustre event that starts to slow down from very early on, and makes a half-hearted attempt in portraying a high school-based story. Therefore, if you are looking to delve into the genre, and binge on the emotions of budding love, then there are better shows to fit that criterion.
