Climax Episode 1 Recap

The episode begins with some pretty disturbing scenes that do not really give us a clear picture of the setup. Later, we see Tae-seop going to an abandoned area and digging something up. After this, we get a look into Tae-seop and Sang-ah’s past and see how they actually met each other.
Tae-seop used to be the poor son of a working-class man who died by suicide. Just so that he can take revenge and get out of his miserable fate, Tae-seop studies hard to become a prosecutor. But only studying it will not help him rise the ranks, and he understood that pretty early in his career. He did everything in his power, from buttering up seniors to taking on dangerous roles, just so he could be someone relevant.
However, luck shone upon him when Sang-ah, a once-popular actress, crossed his path. She used to be a very famous personality in the entertainment industry, but got cancelled because of a tax evasion case. Now, she is looked down upon by everyone else, and she also knows that age is catching up to her. In the present timeline, she goes to meet Yang-mi, who is a very suspicious character. Apparently, she’s the one who pulls strings behind the scenes and also the one who promises to launch Sang-ah into acting again.

Now that she has a connection with Sang-ah, there is a high chance she wants to utilise her for her illegal activities. Later, we get to know that there is considerable tension among the family members of Yang-mi, who became the second wife of a very rich old man. The son from her husband’s first marriage is in a succession battle with her. Yang-mi wants Sang-ah to arrange for a famous actor in her agency as a sex partner for one of her contacts. Sang-ah is strictly against something like this and tries to find another way to get her career as an actress back on track.
Sang-ah tells her manager not to let Yang-mi decide on the fate of their actors or corrupt them in any way. However, the manager still takes a young actor to sleep with a presidential candidate who is getting backed by Yang-mi. Tae-seop, on the other hand, is trying his best to destroy Yang-mi because her fall will automatically give way to his rise as he is conspiring with her nemesis and stepson. But everything becomes a mess when Tae-seop and Sang-ah go to the same hotel where Yang-mi plans to arrange the sexual affairs.

Here, Tae-seop goes to record the whole thing and expose Yang-mi. But Sang-ah goes there to stop her actor from being used like she once was. We get a glimpse into the past and see that Sang-ah herself had been a victim of sexual abuse when she first started her career as an actress. Most likely, her manager did not even protect her and made her sleep with others.
Climax Episode 1 Review

The series has an intense vibe to it, making it quite fitting for a dramatic thriller. The couple is very much in love with each other, but their relationship is also very toxic because they try to hide secrets from each other. Most likely, they do this because they want to protect the other, but that might not work in the future because of a misunderstanding.
