Christmas Full of Grace Review Does Not Contain Spoilers –

Christmas Full of Grace is that nightmare of a movie that tires you out the moment you start watching it. Much like every sad rom-com, it has two characters who are completely opposite of each other and come together under unlikely circumstances to fall in love.

Christmas Full of Grace

Graca is the manic pixie girl who overreacts so much from the moment she is introduced that every scene after that is a chore to watch. Carlinhos, meanwhile, is an absolute bore who has everything about his and his unborn and unconceived son’s lives figured out till the latter is 27. So, you know, with characters like these, you know what you’re in for.

And what you’re in for is the usual lies and deceit at the dinner table, which feels unnecessary and unwarranted. Why I need to lie to my family for my partner’s dishonesty is beyond me; Carlinhos acts as if he’s the one who cheated on Bebela. It’s so surreal, and I don’t get the logic – so is it better to lie to conceal something that is inconsequential purposefully?

But of course, I am looking for logic in something that purposefully wants to be illogical. At one point, Graca screams like a chimpanzee while on a helicopter because she’s scared. She, however, is not scared of this unknown person – for all she knows, he can be a serial killer. Weirder still is; she starts to destroy his family home the moment she sets foot in it and lies under the chimney talking to Santa Claus.

Christmas Full of Grace

This is a grown woman who is allowed to travel alone and acts like she’s constantly on some sort of drug and has absolutely no social skills whatsoever. The small attempts at humanising Graca seem like half-hearted attempts to make us sympathise with her, which fall flat on the face. She is just so annoying from the first minute that it’s hard to watch her overreacting for more than a minute.

Christmas Full of Grace has a storyline that you have definitely watched before. It’s a string of nonsensical things strung together, with Graca screeching about something or the other. Somehow, Carlinhos falls for her without spending any time with her, and you’re left scratching your head, wondering how people in these Christmas movies fall for each other without rhyme or reason.

Summing Up: Christmas Full of Grace

Christmas Full of Grace

We all love a good cheesy holiday movie, right? Something to snuggle to and feel all the warm and fuzzy feelings for. These movies, however, do need to make sense and follow a believable storyline. Christmas Full of Grace, instead of giving the warm and fuzzy feels, is absolute trash from start to end and is absolutely devoid of any logic whatsoever. Everything gets sorted very easily and rather conveniently, and no one really focuses on how inappropriate Graca is throughout the runtime of the film.

But, then again, Christmas is the time for miracles and when logic runs out of the door.

Christmas Full of Grace is streaming on Netflix.
