In Netflix’s rom-com Can This Love Be Translated?, a quirky and chaotic relationship gives way to many existential questions that will leave most viewers bubbling with anticipation. The series’s best part is the two characters at its core, and viewers will find themselves enamoured by Ho-jin and Mu-hee, who are both so different, yet their hearts are drawn to one another.
It’s a classic romantic story with a lot of heart as the two are drawn to one another constantly through circumstance and coincidence. What makes the series so watchable is how adorable and relatable both characters are. While Ho-jin is closed off and reserved, Mu-hee is an open box of enthusiasm and heart. The two of them understand and come to terms with one another as sparks and misunderstandings fly on their first meeting. It’s sweet to watch it unfold as their lives change and grow in indescribable ways.
There are moments when this drama feels overwhelmingly adorable and emotional. It captures many different feelings very well, including the feeling of anguish, heartbreak, love and showcases the toll of trauma through these characters. Both Ho-jin and Mu-hee are flawed characters, but they have their heart in the right place, and it’s evident in every scene. Despite their flaws, these characters feel lived-in and human and make us want to root for them continuously.

The basic premise that the series showcases really well, though, is that everyone has their own language of love that they need to slowly understand in order to know one another well. The angle gives the series a thoughta nd relatable touch because, in real life, one can hardly ever understand their partner’s love language in the precise moment that they meet one another.
The chemistry between Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung is playful and intimate. With Ho-jin being the reserved interpreter who doesn’t showcase too many emotions and Go Youn-jung being the open book and vulnerable actress who has seen meteoric fame, the series balances their conflicts and emotions well. Both actors do a wonderful job of bringing their characters’ quirks to the surface and making us root for them.
However, Can This Love Be Translated can really get on your nerves sometimes. It’s so annoyingly stretched out that it tests your patience, and I found myself wanting the plot to progress beyond the leads staring at one another emotionally. There are moments when the series shines with its emotions, but a lot of it is lost because the series insists on sitting with one feeling for too long and, therefore, making the pace sluggish and boring.
Final Thoughts
This Korean limited series is a charming, thematically thoughtful rom-com that explores various human struggles, especially when feelings get lost between languages and hearts. However, the series tends to get lost in its own complicated feelings sometimes and gets on your nerves. Personally, I found the pacing to be taxing, although the sweetness can get to you at times.

Korean dramas are well known in creating atmosphere where every scenes meant something. The emotional depth they played on could really tell the story from deep down what the actors were trying to convey. Can This Love Be Translated? is shot beautifully in every countries they have traveled. There is romance, and there is nice background, the story is not complicated, and the male and female leads are not annoying. Overall, this drama is not bad at all, no ugly revenge, no personal vendetta, just something sweet and satisfying.

I love KimSeon-Ho all he does is top. I did not like him with the female lead. To me there was no chemistry. The story was all over the place. Any drama he is in I get in to so fast because he is an amazing actor. I just did not connect with this one and I’m so sad because I was wanting for it. The story line and her acting not good for me. This is sad but for me is ????
I’ve just finished binge watching this and really enjoyed it. I love how patient and kind he was and how he looked at her, took my breath away. Beautiful backdrops and lovely story, she was superb in her various roles too, switched effortlessly and very believable. Loved this, highly recommend.
