We end the third season with one of the most-loved couples finding their end – will they end up together or will Penelope’s secret destroy everything that she holds dear? Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 is a sweet and impactful watch once more, spearheaded by Nicola Coughlan, who has been nothing but delightful this entire season. However, part 2 it is also a showcase of women’s power from the point of view of the other women as well. While Penelope struggles with the feeling of choosing between her marriage and her profession, Cressida, who takes on the role of Lady Whistledown in front of the ton, must face the consequences of a thoughtless action.

Penelope’s problems this season are very much a relatable affair, one where women must choose between their dreams and their relationships – a problem as old as time and an ending that breaks hearts even today as you see the light leave women’s eyes, having to give up something that is a part of them. Penelope’s struggles this season are personal and a deep part of who she and all of us are. As much as there is gossip in Bridgerton (and there is a lot of that), there are also these real stories that leave a deep impact on all of us.

Having an identity is such a huge part of Penelope and not getting the credit for her hard work leaves her in a state that is believable and relatable like no other. However, it is also her fierce affection for Colin that shines bright – the person for whom she is ready to give up everything, a love like no other. Her chemistry with Colin is crackling and it is the highlight of season 3, although there is trouble in paradise. There is, for some reason, a very extended and… detailed sequence between the two that leaves an awkward taste in the mouth but it is nice to see the two of them having some conflict if only to come out stronger in the end.

In Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2, we further see the relationship between Penelope and Eloise, as they come to terms with their past and give their future a shot. On their way to becoming sisters, a sudden twist pushes both of them to find solace in one another and the cold war finds a warm breeze to pay heed to. What becomes of them is for the audience to find out but their storyline is a testament of true friendship, of course with its hurdles. That being said, my favourite character has been the fleeting Kate (played by the delightful Simone Ashley). We don’t see her enough but she is warmth personified whenever she is there.

Apart from Penelope, we also have Cressida shining bright this season and part 2 shows her flying too close to the sun, so much so, in fact, that like Icarus, she too was burnt at the end. I understand Cressida’s desperation, as must many women, to a scary degree. It’s a desperation that goes beyond just wanting fame or money – the desperation to survive and to have a say in one’s own life is like no other and, in spite of her mistakes, this season shows her in a different light, one that softens her character and makes her somewhat approachable.

Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 ends on an upbeat and lively note, with a lot of acceptance and happiness all around. The season’s gossip is also quite lively and, as always, dramatic with situations fleeting from one scene to another. In the end, it’s an entertaining and endearing watch that stays with you till the end as you follow Penelope’s quest to be her true self while keeping family close. The series ties everything with a pretty ribbon, leaving us happy but, there’s something oddly missing. Nevertheless, it’s Polin supremacy, and marital bliss has never been this dramatic!

With a dramatic and swoon-worthy ending, the third season of Bridgerton is definitely an endearing and dramatic watch. As always, the highs and lows and the sexual chemistry is what catches our eye but it’s the relatable human stories that keep us there. All in all, a worthy end indeed.
