BLACKPINK’s Jisoo to Make Her Acting Comeback? Deets Spilled!

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is an underrated all-rounder, and while she’s made her rounds as one of the most popular K-pop artists in the world, she’s also back in the race as an actor. Having made her acting debut in the 2015 series The Producers in a cameo role, she took a new turn in the forest of opportunities and never looked back. Since then, she’s been a part of a few similar projects and has only left her fans wanting more and more.

On September 19, 2023, she again started trending on X (formerly Twitter) as BLINKs, aka BLACKPINK fans, took over the platform to tweet about their favourite “Actress Jisoo” agenda. The same happened after a South Korean media outlet disseminated the news of her having been casted in the upcoming South Korean mystery thriller film Dr Cheon and the Lost Talisman (천박사 퇴마 연구소 설경의 비밀), releasing this September.

It stars Gang Dong-won, Huh Joon-ho, Esom, Lee Dong-hwi, Kim Jong-soo and Park So-yi in the main roles and has been directed by Kim Seong-sik. As far as the BLACKPINK member’s role is concerned, she is reportedly making her big screen debut with a surprise appearance. Stepping in to play the role of a traditional Korean fairy, and though her cameo may not have necessarily imparted her with a speaking presence in the movie, her fans are still overjoyed to hear the news nevertheless.

Based on the Naver webtoon Possessed written by Fresh and illustrated by Kim Hong-tae, its story revolves around a fake exorcist, played by Dong-won, who despite not having any contact with ghosts solves cases with “ghost-like insight”, and is eventually handed over a significant case of powerful possession. Director Kim Seong-sik had even released a statement as to why he picked Jisoo for this role, and to explain the same he went back to her K-drama Snowdrop, which only further helped establish her as a fairy-like presence in his mind.

Having played the character of Eun Young-ro in the 2021-22 K-drama, Kim Ji-soo starred in her first small screen main role opposite Jung Hae-in. She even went on to win the Outstanding Korean Actress award at the 2022 Seoul International Drama Awards for the same. Plus, she also had a cameo in the 2019 series Arthdal Chronicles.
