All Quiet on the Western Front Teaser: Shows the Gritty Reality of the First World War

All Quiet on the Western Front teaser gives us the first sneak peek into the upcoming German anti-war film based on the 1929 Erich Maria Remarque novel of the same name. The film is scheduled to premiere at Toronto International Film Festival on September 12 and will be globally released by Netflix later on.

It is directed by Edward Berger and the screenplay is adapted by Ian Stokell, Lesley Paterson and Edward Berger. Produced by Daniel Brühl, Daniel Marc Dreifuss, Malte Grunert, Clive Barker, Marc Toberoff, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell. The novel tells a raw account of life in the trenches and became an instant bestseller, followed by an epic Academy Award-winning Hollywood movie in 1930.

However, at that time, the film fell victim to Nazi censorship, forcing its creator into Swiss exile. Despite its enduring legacy, the literary classic had never been reimagined by a German director, until now.

The film tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches.

An impressive ensemble of actors in the film includes Daniel Brühl as Matthias Erzberger, Albrecht Schuch as Stanislaus “Kat” Katczinsky, Felix Kammerer as Paul Bäumer, Moritz Klaus as Frantz Müller, Aaron Hilmer as Albert Kropp, Edin Hasanovic as Tjaden Stackfleet, Devid Striesow and Sebastian Hülk.

As seen in the teaser, the film is told from the perspective of 17-year-old German soldier Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer). It begins three years into World War I — then the most brutal and bloody conflict in human history. Bolstered by propaganda and dreams of glory, Paul and his friends leave school to join the army, confident in victory.

But the reality of trench warfare is more like a nightmare as they are plagued with rain, mud and terrifying, constant death. The boy who was laughing with his friends at the start is torn down by the ravages of the war and on the edge of his own life.
