Climax Episode 5 Recap

Today’s episode begins with Sang-ah getting saved by Jeong-won, who was also listening to the bickering between Tae-seop and Sang-ah. She goes to save Sang-ah, and we get to know that she had always liked her as a role model. Growing up, Jeong-won belonged to a very problematic and abusive household where her father beat and tortured her mother all the time. There were times when she would be the one who would take a beating in her mother’s place. But one day, when she came back from school, she saw that her mother had committed suicide.
In a fit of rage, Jeong-won then went to the bar where her father was getting drunk, and she brutally stabbed him to death. Her case then went to Tae-seop, who tried to reduce her sentence as much as possible. After this happened, Jeong-won did not keep herself out of trouble and started stealing money from older men with whom she would enter into a sexual relationship.
While running away from some gangsters, she again meets Tae-seop, who then takes her to his home. Then, Tae-seop’s sister gives her food, and Tae-seop tries to help her out. Here, we get to see that from the very beginning, she had been a fan of Sang-ah and always related to her sad life as she herself faced many challenges.

Hence, she developed an urge to help Sang-ah, and that is why she took Sang-ah to her own home without telling Tae-seop. At night, the situation turns pretty interesting because we clearly feel a very prominent sexual tension between Jeong-won and Sang-ah. Sang-ah even sees her dead lover in Jeong-won and kisses her. The next day, we find out that the situation for Tae-seop is not very good as well. There are articles about him being involved in the murder of Gwang-jae, and it happened right before his nomination to run for the presidential election.
On the other hand, Yang-mi’s situation is also not very good cause her own deeds are now biting back at her. She tried to dig up Gwang-jae’s case but was warned by her stepson that her husband was involved in it. She had no idea about it, and now if she tries to expose the case further, it can be fatal for her as well. Tae-seop also comes in to give devastating news to the Chairman, and it becomes clear that the old man was affected by it.
However, Sang-ah is playing her own game elsewhere. She meticulously goes to Jae-sang’s house and starts helping his mother. Then she manages to get a glimpse of Jae-sang watching her from a distance, and that is when she starts acting pitiful and regretful. She begs his mother to forgive her, and he becomes more emotional about her. Then we get a sense that she might use his love for her in the next episode.

Climax Episode 5 Review
The thriller element in this episode is really great, highlighting just how complex the characters are. Each of them has endured something deeply troubling in their past, which has shaped them into the twisted individuals they are now. At this point, there isn’t any clear pairing, and honestly, it doesn’t feel like Tae-seop will end up with Sang-ah. Their relationship was never built on romance to begin with. All in all, this feels different, and I’m genuinely excited to see where the story goes next.
