The series opens with Gerry Wade’s murder at the Caterham estate after a lively party involving several high-profile people. Particularly close to him thanks to her brother, young Lady Eileen Brent finds herself heartbroken and desperate for answers, especially when she finds discrepancies in Gerry’s room that seemingly no one had any idea about.

Finding curious clues guiding her towards something called Seven Dials and a broken sleeping draft, she takes help from one of Gerry’s friends, Ronny, to look further into the matter. Ronny is not convinced at first, even going as far as to stop her from putting her nose where it doesn’t belong, but, driven by desperation and a strong sense of justice, Eileen pushes on. This results in Ronny’s death, who tells her to talk to Jimmy Thesiger about the matter.

Out and about, she stumbles upon Scotland Yard’s Superintendent Battle, who is also investigating the situation, and the two disagree on what their next move should be.

What is the Seven Dials?

Eileen learns that Seven Dials is not an area but a nightclub, and she heads there with Bill. Inside, she overhears 7 masked people wearing costumes talking about Ronny and Gerry’s deaths and about securing Dr Cyril Matip’s formula at any cost from Wyvern Abbey. Right then and there, Eileen realises that the situation is graver than she could’ve imagined.

What is the Matip’s formula?

Matip has figured out a way to create a type of steel that cannot be bent, broken or destroyed in any capacity. Politicians, including the Prime Minister, are desperately trying to get their hands on it because it will change the way that they look at things and how wars are fought. However, much like she predicted, at a party in George Lomax’s house to discuss his invention, Jimmy is shot, and Matip is poisoned, although both thankfully survive the situation.

In a dramatic face-off on a train while following Loraine from the Abbey, Bill, Eileen and Jimmy find and corner Loraine, and we finally learn that Jimmy and Loraine were both in on the plan, leaving Eileen hurt. He was merely doing it for money, which leaves Eileen even more hurt – lives lost just for money.

Jimmy mentions in his confrontation with Eileen that there was someone above them who instructed them with these plans. She goes down the train to find the real person behind the murders and is shocked to find her mother in one of the carriages. She is equal parts stumped and befuddled. Lady Caterham explains that she holds no responsibility for her country, which did not care for everyone she loved who faced a brutal death because of it. She only wanted to make money to keep the two of them alive, as they had nothing left.

Lady Caterham tries to walk out of the carriage, but Eileen refuses to let her and hands her over to the police.

With everyone arrested and everything destroyed, Eileen goes back home and thinks back to the last night she spent with Gerry, and she is eventually taken by Alfred to meet the masked people in The Seven Dials. Number Seven turns out to be Battle, who tells her that his organisation is only meant to protect people, and eventually recruits her, telling her that her father was also a part of the organisation. Completely shocked, she agrees to join them on this dangerous but engaging mission.
