Down Cemetery Road Review
A “common” gas leak explosion brings to light a shocking conspiracy surrounding government-issued experiments and two women out on a path of vengeance. Down Cemetery Road has all the hallmarks of an interesting thriller that brings forth complex emotions mixed with kookie conspiracies that will leave any viewer on edge.
The series follows Sarah, a young woman who finds herself in the midst of a huge conspiracy when an explosion rocks her neighbourhood. The terrifying reality takes her on a wild chase with a mysterious man, whose enemies try to hunt them down at every turn.
The series builds from a random gas explosion to military secrets and secret experiments and makes us emotionally connect with its primary characters. Both Sarah and Zoë are interesting people with their own issues and quirks and they will make you want to root for them at every turn. The series’s central mystery comes out quick enough and the rest of the runtime is dedicated to getting young Dinah back and for revenge to be had.
Down Cemetery Road is fine. I think the series can get a bit slow at times and the thrills start to slow after the intial shock wears off. The central mystery is quite obvious and we have seen it far too many times in other shows. However, the series paints the mystery behind it quite well and so viewers will find themselves drawn to figuring out what happened rather than resigning themselves to the same-old boring story.
That being said, I still think the series could’ve been much more tense and arresting because not a lot happens other than characters running around to find clues. Apart from understanding who has done what, there isn’t a lot of mystery here as most is brought to us on a silver platter. The series mostly works on the good performances of the actors who do a fantastic job of bringing out all the emotions that their characters go through.

Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson make for a great team, although we don’t get to see them together at first. However, they are fantastic and make you want to go on this crazy adventure. Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is great as well and, although he starts off a bit shadowy, becomes close to our hearts in no time.
Final Thoughts
Down Cemetery Road is fine and I found myself arrested in bursts. But there are some slow moments that take away from the tension of the series and the mystery might be obvious to most. However, when it gets the tension right, it does so too well and that’s what’s memorable about it.
