The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 9 Recap
The episode opens in the airport, as Belly spots Conrad but chooses to walk away. At that moment, he gets a call from Adam informing him about the cancelled wedding. He promises to check in on Jeremiah while being stunned by the news. Meanwhile, Jeremiah and the others drink at a bar, and it feels like Jeremiah is handling it better than one would expect. Steven and Taylor decide to be “assholes” when they spot Conrad walking to the bar and decide to stop him.
Steven is beside himself, and it’s Taylor who de-escalates the situation, asking Conrad to leave before something bad happens. She further tells him to leave Belly alone and get her head around her own thoughts, promising to inform him if she hears anything. As Jeremiah drinks his sorrows away, or tries to, he asks the others about where Belly is and, unfortunately, no one has any idea.

Belly, meanwhile, feeling the pressure of the decision she has made, decides to run away for her own sanity and that of the others around her as the guilt eats her alive. In Paris, she goes to register for the program, but is informed that they gave her spot away. Without options, she calls Laurel, who implores her to come back home, promising that no one will hate her and nothing will happen.
The next morning at Cousins, the mood is grim as everyone sobers up and faces the realities of their situations. Laurel tries to comfort Jeremiah, but he blows up at her and tells her to leave him alone. Meanwhile, Belly follows her stolen backpack through the streets of Paris and ends up at a shady bar. Stumbling into a random woman outside, they walk inside together in search of the backpack.

At the summer house, Steven runs into Conrad, who again tells him to leave him alone. However, when he learns about Jeremiah cheating on Belly from Taylor, he loses his mind. This conversation, though, results in them getting together once again, promising to work on their issues. In Paris, Belly shares her miseries with her new friends and afterwards, on her way to the airport, finally calls Jeremiah. The two talk about the future of their relationship, and although he wants to continue to date, she refuses, opting to stay in Paris.

That night, Jeremiah and Conrad talk at the house in Cousins, and he informs him that Belly is in Paris. The information takes him by surprise, more so when he mentions that she isn’t coming back. In the end, he asks Conrad to leave and not come back. Later, Conrad meets up with Adam and tells him about professing his feelings for Belly. He opens up about his heartbreak, and the two have a heart-to-heart conversation.
Meanwhile, in Paris, Belly walks around without a plan but is hopeful for what’s in front of her.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 9 Review

What an unnecessary and convoluted entry to the third season, as it gives us nothing, takes the story nowhere and is all around a fluff piece that is nothing but annoying. The only saving grace is Steven and Taylor’s relationship, and #Staylor gives us some really sweet moments. Is it extremely toxic? Sure, but The Summer I Turned Pretty wouldn’t be the series it is without the toxicity. Either way, this episode leaves us on a bigger lurch than we started out with. With one more episode to go, things will hopefully find a good conclusion in the next episode. This episode could’ve been included in the last episode instead of giving us an unnecessary extra episode.
