My Troublesome Star Episode 6 Review: An Engaging Progression But an Unbelievable Protagonist

In the last episode, Se-ra meets Du-won to get to the bottom of who is trying to kill her. However, Du-won seems to have been waiting for her arrival.

After Du-won and Se-ra meet, a scrumptious meal later, she asks him where he was on the night of her accident. However, Du-won tries to blow it over and not answer, but a flashback sequence showcases that Du-won might have had something to do with her getting bumped off. Se-ra, too, catches his lie and can’t help but wonder whether it was him who caused her accident.

Meanwhile, on a routine visit, Baek-ja is shocked to see her father watching Se-ra’s new drama and eventually lashes out at him for never thinking of her to be enough. She gave up her future and going to college to look after her, but she always came second. This outburst, however, has no takers since her father is not in a mental state to understand her.

Elsewhere, Se-ra is ecstatic to see that she has more lines in the next episode, and a sudden slap across Nam-ju’s face with a radish turns her into a sensation overnight. This brings in a ton of eyes towards her, including Du-won and Sun-yeong. When he makes a grand gesture, she reaches out to him, and he asks her to meet him alone. But, before that, she meets Baek-ja, who seems to have softened up after Se-ra takes up the reins of the house.

That night, Se-ra is shocked to see that Dae-gu has found her once more and by the time Cheol arrives, she has been kidnapped. Following the tracker he put on her, Cheol is on to them, while Se-ra follows some of the training that she received previously as an actor to keep Dae-gu at bay. It works for only some time, but thankfully, Cheol arrives soon after to throw some solid punches. Meanwhile, Hui-yeong is incensed to learn that Du-won is planning to sign Se-ra on, which might just threaten her own place in the industry.

As Se-ra takes care of Cheol’s injuries, he shares that the two accidents she faced are connected, and someone is hell-bent on killing her. Elsewhere, Hui-yeong fights with Du-won and reminds her that Se-ra’s return marks the destruction of their lives, and he promises to get rid of her slowly. Meanwhile, Se-ra’s attacker, seemingly Assemblyman Min Guk-hee, is amused by her insistence on coming out of the shadows. As her attackers draw their plans to destroy her, Se-ra promises to find the shadowy man lost in her memories.

My Troublesome Star Episode 6 Review

I think My Troublesome Star is a very enjoyable series, but its insistence on turning Se-ra into a hapless victim who does stupid things and needs Cheol to appear out of nowhere to save her is becoming a bit old at this point. Although I don’t expect her to land Cheol-level punches but at least be a bit more aware of your surroundings!

Either way, I think the plot is engaging, but it’s the execution that is becoming a bit too grating to take it seriously. Although it feels like it’s a caricature of other shows, it would’ve benefited from not being a goofy endeavour. The mystery element, although obvious at this point, is interesting to witness. Either way, we can only hope for things to get better!
