Lucca’s World Review

The plot of the film follows Bárbara who sets out to find treatment for her son Lucca who is suffering from severe cerebral palsy. She travels all the way across the world to India with nothing but hope and determination. The film is based on the true events of the book The Two Hemispheres of Lucca by Bárbara Anderson who penned down her journey when she took her son to India to take part in the experimental treatment.

The film beautifully follows the events that took place when Bárbara Anderson herself set out on the journey to find a cure for her son. It captures, marvellously, the determination of a mother who is ready to do anything possible to help her child. Not only this, but it also captures the love and support of a family that is not ready to let her fight alone as she sets out on this adventure with them. A heartfelt flurry of emotions takes over the screen as we see the rollercoaster Bárbara goes through with her hopes as they go through the many ups and downs.

I have loved how real everything about this film is and how well they try to match the real videos that are played at the end of the film. Everything is wonderfully captured and the power of motherhood shown in this film is all the more heartbreaking, yet heartwarming. You feel both happy and sad emotions play within you side by side as the film slowly progresses towards the end.

On the other hand, the cinematography of the show is also beautifully captured as you also get to see hope shining on the mother-son duo with the way some of the scenes are captured. Be it the sun rays shining on Lucca or the wish to be a bird played out through shadows, the cinematography of this film is absolutely beautiful.

Then there is also the performance of the actors which is another added bonus to the overall feel of the film. The oscillation between despair and hope in the mother’s expressions, the helplessness of a father who is also facing unemployment during this time, the support of a doctor who really wants to help this family and more. The expressions and aura are so wonderfully captured that you will find it hard not to know what they are bringing to the screen.

Altogether, this film is an absolute beauty to watch especially because of the message of hope that it brings to the world. It is also a wonderful mix of two cultures which despite being limited to very few scenes, makes an impact that is hard to overlook.
