New Year time is usually always filled with excitement in the air, not just because of the incoming year but also because this is the time for end-of-year awards that fill us up with a festive vibe. From the annual Korean award shows like the Golden Disc Awards to various drama awards like the KBS Drama Awards, this is the time when it’s all about looking back to the wonderful year that was filled with some of the best releases from the Korean entertainment industry.
Unfortunately, that was not the scene this time when on December 29th, 2024, the tragic Jeju Air crash took place, filling the country with an atmosphere of mourning for those who lost their lives. The 7-day mourning period commenced during which the Korean entertainment industry announced the cancellation or postponement of various shows, awards, and others. The investigation continues, and while the lost lives cannot be returned, the show must go on.
Along this week, news about these postponed shows was slowly released, informing fans of the much-awaited awards that are ready to declare their favourite’s wins. However, not all of these shows will be broadcast live and will only be pre-recorded award ceremonies that will be released for viewers. With this, let’s take a look into when our favourite Korean awards shows will be broadcast for viewers!

Korean Award Shows Broadcast Dates!
39th Golden Disc Awards
The 39th Golden Disc Awards were set to broadcast live on January 4th and 5th 2025, however, in the wake of the Jeju Air crash, organisers announced that the live broadcast will be cancelled. Instead, the show will now be pre-recorded and broadcast for the audience on January 6th and 7th. Additionally, the red carpet has also been cancelled during this time as the mourning continues. JTBC has announced that the Digital Song Division of the ceremony will broadcast on January 6th, 2025 at 12 AM (KST) while the Album Division segment will broadcast on January 7th, 2025 at 12 AM (KST).
2024 KBS Drama Awards
The 2024 KBS Drama Awards were originally scheduled to broadcast live on December 31st, 2024, but soon after the tragedy hit, they announced the show’s postponement. Earlier today, the organisers of the show announced that the ceremony is set to broadcast on January 11th, 2025 at 9:20 p.m. KST. However, the award ceremony will be pre-recorded and there will be no live broadcast of the ceremony.
2024 SBS Entertainment Awards
Originally set to broadcast on December 31st, 2024, the 2024 SBS Entertainment Awards chose to entirely cancel the award ceremony in condolences to those affected by the tragedy. The show has been rescheduled and will now take place on January 29th, 2025, coinciding with the Lunar New Year and will broadcast live as planned.
2024 MBC Drama Awards
The 2024 MBC Drama Awards was originally set to broadcast live on December 30th, 2024. Following the tragedy, the live broadcast of the ceremony was cancelled and instead opted for a pre-recorded broadcast. The show that took place on the day will now air on January 5th, 2025 at 5:10 p.m. KST for the audience.
2024 MBC Music Festival
The 2024 MBC Music Festival was originally set for a live broadcast of the event on December 30th, 2024, which was cancelled. Instead, the ceremony went by in silence while the organisers confirmed that a pre-recorded version would be broadcast for the audience. While details of the same have not been confirmed as of yet, we can expect news on the same soon.
