Neva Play MV Review: Megan Thee Stallion and RM Deliver a Bold Fusion of Futuristic Vibes and Powerful Rap Energy

Ever since the announcement of the collaboration between Megan Thee Stallion and RM, I’ve been on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the release of their track. And now, the wait is finally over! Neva Play MV has made its grand debut, and the excitement among fans is palpable. The music video, directed by Warrenfu & Carl Jones—premiered at 1 PM KST in September 2024 and has already captivated audiences worldwide.

Before diving into my review, I have to highlight how Megan Thee Stallion has recently been winning hearts globally. She’s solidified herself as one of the best female rappers out there. Her recent track Mamushi (feat. Yuki Chiba) brilliantly intertwines a Japanese story with her unique style, making the song incredibly powerful. And let’s not forget her previous collaboration with BTS for the Butter remix; her verse added such a smooth and enjoyable twist to the song, which only raised my excitement for her next project with RM.

What got me even more hyped was Megan’s comment about how this track was her way of embracing Namjoon’s rap style. As someone who loves both of their music, I was practically on my tiptoes, eagerly anticipating how “Neva Play” would turn out. And now that it’s here, I can’t wait to share my thoughts!

Megan Thee Stallion Neva Play MV Review

Right off the bat, Neva Play grabs you by the ears and doesn’t let go. What a sexy, fun, kickass song! RM’s deep, rich voice is a revelation. We’ve always known RM has a powerful rap presence, but there’s something different here—a rawness that feels both commanding and intimate. His natural deep voice adds an undeniable allure to the track. I need him to do more songs in his natural voice because, honestly, it’s a game-changer.

Megan Thee Stallion, as always, brings her A-game. Her verses are filled with her trademark confidence and charisma, and she slays hard throughout the music video. The energy she exudes is infectious, and it’s clear that she’s in her element, both lyrically and visually. The music video plays to her strengths, featuring bold visuals and dynamic moves that capture her boss-girl attitude perfectly. It’s Megan doing what she does best—owning the scene and making it look effortless.

One of the most unexpected yet delightful elements of the Neva Play MV is RM’s appearance in anime format. At first, I was a bit skeptical about this creative choice, but as the video progressed, it became clear why this was such a genius move. Anime Joon fighting off the villains in a futuristic cityscape? Hell yes! It’s like watching an epic anime where our favorite rapper is the main character, bringing his unique style to a genre that’s typically reserved for fictional heroes.

The transition between Megan’s fiery rap and BTS RM’s deep voice is seamless. There’s a powerful synergy between their styles that makes this song feel like a celebration of both artists’ unique qualities. When they come together in the chorus, it’s pure magic. “For Asian men, we paved the way”—Boom! That line, in particular, stands out, hitting all the right notes both musically and socially. It’s a bold statement, and it adds depth to what could have been just another catchy tune.

If there’s one major criticism I have, it’s that the song feels way too short. Just when you’re fully immersed in the groove, it ends! I need an extended version ASAP because there’s so much potential here that another verse or bridge could have elevated the track even further. The music video hints that anime Kim Namjoon might become human, suggesting there could be a second song together. If that’s the case, I’m all in! The chemistry between these two artists is undeniable, and I can only hope they explore it further in future projects.

The music video itself is a visual feast. With a fun, futuristic style and a bold, raunchy vibe, it’s clear the directors wanted to push the boundaries. The aesthetic is very cyberpunk, with neon lights, dark alleyways, and high-tech elements blending seamlessly with Megan and anime Joon’s confident personas. The narrative, while simple, is effective—showcasing both Megan and RM’s characters in situations where they dominate, counting their money, celebrating their accolades, and boosting their confidence.

What makes this song stand out is its ability to merge different worlds—Western rap and Korean hip-hop, anime culture, and futuristic visuals—into a cohesive and compelling package. Fans of both artists will find plenty to love here, from Megan’s unapologetic swagger to RM’s magnetic presence. It’s a song that’s built for those who love to vibe, who appreciate strong lyrical content, and who are looking for something that feels both fresh and familiar at the same time.

Moreover, I think Neva Play is going to resonate with a lot of people because it embodies the essence of collaboration—bringing together different styles and cultures to create something new and exciting. This isn’t just a song; it’s a moment. And for that reason, I believe it’s going to have a lasting impact. The fusion of genres, the cultural significance, and the sheer energy of both Megan and RM make this a standout track of the year.
