Aladdin Musical: Kim Junsu, Lee Sung-kyung, and Others Set to Bring Agrabah to Life in Korean Production

The buzz surrounding the Korean production of the Aladdin musical has reached new heights with the recent announcement of its star-studded cast. On August 6, the production team revealed the lineup of actors selected through rigorous auditions, promising a dazzling rendition of the beloved Disney classic.

This adaptation of “Aladdin” will introduce audiences in Korea to a fresh and dynamic interpretation of the enchanting tale set in the fictional city of Agrabah. The story follows the adventurous Aladdin, whose life transforms with the help of a magical genie, bringing to life themes of adventure, romance, and friendship.

Leading the cast as Aladdin are renowned musical performers Kim Junsu, Seo Kyung-soo, and Park Kang-hyun. Each brings their own distinct style to the role, ensuring a captivating portrayal of the charming hero. The role of the Genie, one of the most iconic characters in the musical, will be shared by Jung Sung-hwa, Jung Won-young, and Kang Hong-seok. These actors are celebrated for their theatrical prowess and vibrant stage presence, making them ideal choices for the role of the wish-granting, larger-than-life character. Princess Jasmine will be brought to life by a trio of talented actresses: Lee Sung-kyung, Min Kyung-ah, and Choi Ji-hye.

In the role of Sultan, audiences will see Lee Sang-joon and Hwang Man-ik, while Yoon Sun-yong and Im Byul will take on the role of the villainous Jafar. The scheming Iago, Jafar’s loyal sidekick, will be played by Jung Yeol, rounding out the core cast of this high-energy production. Supporting characters Kassim and Omar will be portrayed by Seo Man-seok and Yook Hyun-wook, while Bang Bo-yong and Yang Byung-chul will take on the roles of Babkak, bringing additional humor and camaraderie to the story.

The musical will be performed across two major cities in Korea. It will debut at the Charlotte Theater in Seoul on November 22, 2024, with performances running through June 22, 2025. Following its Seoul engagement, the production will move to Busan, opening at Dream Theatres in July 2025.

Aladdin Korean version is set to offer a unique take on the cherished Disney story, showcasing a blend of local talent and theatrical innovation. With its impressive lineup and fresh approach, this production is poised to enchant audiences and deliver a memorable theatrical experience.
